The camera never lies

newell.jpg

That is is the police department's mugshot of Jonathan Newell, who was arrested last night and charged with first-degree murder.

Is it just me or is it disconcerting to see the guy accused of strangling a 26-year-old woman in her home smiling at the camera?

Does it bias your perception of his guilt or innocence?

Judging from the article today, this guy's been through the system before. He's probably smiling because he knows it may be years before he's tried and there's a good chance he'll get off because the arresting officer had dirty fingernails or something....

I know this guy, and that's actually just how he is. Whether he's guilty or not, he's very faith driven and he is the kind of guy who would smile in a mug shot.

I know this guy too. I was very shocked, but he is a little weird. It doesn't surprise me that he is smiling in his mug shot. Maybe he is innocent???

That is not the mug shot photo that was taken after the arrest. I don't know where that photo came from, but in the photo that was taken after the arrest his facial hair is different. In the photo taken after the arrest he does not have the full goatee, he only has a mustache and some hair under his bottom lip, he is not smiling, and definitely looks like he got caught.

The photo here came from the Sheriff's Dept. You can search for it at www.guilfordcountysheriff.com

Trust me...he did it.

To Trust me... I think he did it too. I remember their relationship and it was very violent and angry by the time it ended and he was never able to let it go. As sad and scary as it is, I can see him doing this.
