Sad alum news: Tony Snow

Tony Snow died this morning.

Nationally, Snow is best known for his roles as President Bush's press secretary and Fox News host, but in our shop he is remembered as a former editorial writer for The Greensboro Record back in the 70s. He got his start in journalism here.

Sigh.

Update: Fox is doing a live show on Tony tonight at 9 p.m. on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.

What a shame. I always felt Snow was thoroughly entertaining as White House Press Sec. and enjoyed hearing him. He was a true wordsmith with a charming personality.

My heart breaks for Tony's family. I always enjoyed seeing him on FoxNews, I think he was one of the best press secretaries ever! He was honest and always added a touch of humor tp what he did. I had so hopes that he would beat this disease. RIP Tony......... you brought a lot of smiles to us, and we appreciated your integrity.

What a great loss. A sad day indeed. I had heard from a friend in Washington earlier this week that Tony was no longer taking calls and didn't have much time left. I prayed for a different outcome but fate had decreed otherwise. There are many moments I will remember about Tony's life and career. This one captured it best. Earlier this year an honor was bestowed upon him. His vibrant and sunny dispostion was as usual on display as he accepted the
William F. Buckley Jr. Award For Media Excellence

A sad day for Americans and for the earth. Anyone being a Tony Snow critic is a sad low-life. He alwayss s tried to find the best in any situation. He didn't want this country to do a three-step into Marxism, Socialism, Communism. But I see that some of your bloggers can't wait for their grandchildren to wake up to a socialist America.

Joseph Goebbels was the Tony Snow of 1930s and 1940s in central and western Europe.

Ed # 2,

What a contempible comment about a decent man. And not even original ( laist.com ). You make most liberals ashamed. I have seen this vile on Kos and other angry and unhinged left blogs. Your ilk is consumed with bottomless hate towards those who disagree with you. Pathetic.

John Robinson said:

Well said, Fred. I don't know why people feel the need to trash the dead with comments that are pointless and way over the top. Happens everywhere, I'm ashamed to say.

jaycee said:

Mr. Robinson, I've seen you delete posts less acidic than that of Ed#2 and ban the poster.
Why not in this case?

John Robinson said:

I challenge you on that assertion, jaycee.

Voicing an opinion that is stupid and unfounded isn't grounds for deletion.

Fred Gregory said:

Thank you, John.

Two of the warmest and most moving tributes to Tony came from Juan Williams and Susan Estrich. Not exactly conservatives.

I'll link them for the record.

A Man Who Loved People

He was a mencsh
