Housing: which way is up?

"Existing home sales down in the Triad" -- News-Record.com

"Triad existing home sales down 18 percent" -- Biz Journal.com

"Triad home sales increase in second quarter" -- DigTriad.com

And they're all accurate!

For the heck of it, we'll try to take another tack in the newsprint version.

Andrew Brod said:

John, this really isn't a mystery, as the first paragraph of your article makes clear: "The number of existing, single-family homes sold in the Triad dropped 18 percent in the second quarter from the same period in 2007. The latest figure was up 0.2 percent from the first quarter of this year."

So sales in April-June of 2008 were down sharply as compared to April-June of 2007, but up slightly as compared to January-March of 2008. Simple.
