Buyouts in Raleigh & Charlotte
Voluntary buyouts offered in Charlotte and Raleigh that include the entire newsrooms at both places. The economy in both Raleigh and Charlotte is stronger than other places -- Greensboro -- so this move is telling.
I hate it for the damage the impending cuts could do to coverage of state government where both papers are strong. While we have the extraordinary Mark Binker, he's only one man. We supplement Mark's reports with wire feeds from Raleigh and Charlotte.
I have friends and former co-workers in both places -- I used to work in Raleigh. Wishing them all well in these tough times.

My former colleagues in the newsroom at The Bradenton Herald in Florida -- which McClatchy bought from Knight Ridder -- also were all recently offered "voluntary separation" packages. Not a good sign...especially after their managing editor was laid off.

The No has been wrecked by their liberal agenda.
I have many friends in Raleigh, that have quit the NO. When the No called them to find out why they had canceled, they told them. Seems they could care less. News paper are in denial, if they think for one minute they can not stop the bleeding. The Danville R&B did about twenty front page stories on Obama, they said when the republican convention came up, they do the same for McCain got 1/2 page, Obama got the other1/2. My wife a wacko liberal is even PO at them. So how do you think a conservative like me feels about. The sad part, I have some friends there and I sure do not want them to lose their jobs. The R@B also have done several good stories on me. however that does not change the fact, I want my news straight.
