Palin's interview
By the way, I've complained suggested that Gov. Palin make herself more available to the news media.
On her visit here, she did. Just not to us.
From reporter Mark Binker's post at Capital Beat:
I'm not real happy with the McCain campaign today. After the Elon event Palin did a fundraiser and I was told the local pool would be able to cover that. It's a major reason I took the pool assignment. I was told mid-way through my day that the fundraiser would be closed. And I just found out that the campaign tossed a one-on-one to an out-of-town competitor rather than to the paper that staffed their pool today.
Who knows why campaigns do what they do. Rob's interview.

also, suggest to the campaign that they take better care of the media. I'm not referring to Joe's incident, but the campaign had media parking almost half a mile away. forcing us to carry our 50+ pounds of camera gear with no shuttle service option. when you've got upset media, it makes it harder for them to do their job. and when their job is to hopefully give you as much coverage as possible, its something you should put some thought into. i don't know, maybe thats just my sore back talking...

Out, Michael.
I can counter with the time I was kidnapped by the Obama campaign. When Obama was in town earlier this year, his campaign bused local media from the O. Henry to the candidate's meet-n-greet at the Farmer's Market on Yanceyville Street. That bus also carried the national media pool, so when the Farmer's Market event was over, the national folks drove north to Martinsville and the local folks waved goodbye to the bus.
I ended up walking back to the N&R, which wasn't a bad hike. Then again, I wasn't carrying 50 pounds of gear.

Er, I mean "Ouch, Michael." I've got Tylenol in my top left desk drawer if you need it.

Why would Palin, or any Republican in their right mind, want to talk to Obama sycophant shills, who are openly, and unashamedly promoting his candidacy while trying your best to destroy Palin who is as close to everyday middle class working people as any national candidate ever.
You media sycophants have done a more in depth investigation into the life of "Joe" (his middle name which he is not ashamed of!) the plumber in two days than you've done into Obama's in nearly two years. We know more about Samuel than we know about Obama, or all that we would know if we only depened on the liberal, Obama cheerleading media!
Samuel, the plumber, got Obama, in a few minutes, to spill the beans on his Socialist agenda, while you in the dinosauer media have spent two years trying to cover it up! I wonder if we'll see the little tidbit about Mrs. Obama's ordering a little meal from room service at the Waldorf Astoria consisting of Iranian (probably compliments of Ahamadinejad) Caviar, and two full Lobsters, while her husband was lamenting how tough things are for the poor people on the street who have lost their jobs. Looking forward to reading about this in your Obama Newsletter! How can you not love these two, and the media who shed their professionalism to shill for them!

This poor guy mearly asks a question and gets slammed by the press, Obama associates with known terrorist that have "killed people" and he gets a pass! That would make for great press "Obama's friend Bill Ayers is a killer, Obama approves." JR, I bet this would sell a bunch of papers, though it might put you in the doghouse with your Liberal associates, but business is business!

Not happy with the McCain campaign today....? Perhaps that's why today's headline reads, "Palin keeps it positive". What exactly is the implication of that headline? You actually wonder why Palin wouldn't want to do an interview with you? The next time Senators Obama or Biden come to town and after reporter Mark Binker recovers from being in the presence of these liberal icons, I'd like to see the same logic applied and have headlines that read, "Obama tells the truth" or "Biden gives a speech he didn't steal".

I don't know what motivated your reporter to estimate the crowd size at around 2,000, but I thought the number was in the 10,000 - 12,000 range.
Years ago when I was treasurer for the Greater Greensboro Open we knew how many tickets had been sold and how many had been given out complimentary. We took pride in looking at the galleries on Sunday afternoon with the knowledge we had a handle on the number of people we were looking at. Yesterday I made a "ball park" guess at crowd size and thought it could fill the Grasshopper ball park and then some. Your reporter's complaint about parking arrangements is a testament to the large number of cars parked around Elon yesterday. I suppose you could attribute the large number of cars parked in fields around town to the large student body.

could not agree with you more Tonymo, I learned more about Joe in the last few days, than I have ever read about Bill Ayers!I read 3 days ago, that BIden, rip off 2 million dollars it has yet to make any papers that we buy. I said it months ago in republican, that does a interview, are spends money for a ad in any paper we buy, is crazy. Watch, O'Reily* rating start to drop. I thought it was just me, playing golf and getting a hair cut yesterday, the talk was he had become a left wing looney. Bet now the left wing media will love him!
* I gave up on him months ago.

Estimating crowd size is always perilous. That's why we don't do it ourselves. The Burlington Police told us 2,000. That's where we got the number. The Times-News said 15,000. John Blust suggested 6,000 to me. An Elon College staffer said maybe 4,000 to 5,000. A woman called me and insisted there were 20,000. You say 10,000 to 12,000.
We have always used the police estimates of crowd size, although this wide disparity suggests to me that we should not do it at all.

John,
Who at the Burlington Police
gave you the 2,000 number?

The average police officer has no special training or skill set to estimate crowd sizes. He's no more accurate than, say, Joe the Plumber...
Just because it's "official" doesn't mean it's correct.

Sorry, I meant Elon Police when I wrote Burlington. I don't know the name of the officer.
Jaycee, that's so true in many things.
