It's a sellout!
Like newspapers all over the country, we have essentially sold out of the paper today. We believe that there are some papers still in racks and at stores, but my guess is that there won't be for long. I can't remember that happening before.
Plans in the work to print more!
And you can go to eBay.
Update: Best line I've heard so far. Put the newspaper away for your grandchildren. When you pull it out, you can show them what a newspaper was.
Thursday update: Reprints available this morning. There was a crowd of people in the lobby of our building buying multiple copies.

Didn't it happen 9/12/01?

Its amazing how the N&R cries to blues and is constantly cutting back on coverage but can devote the entire front page to a picture and nothing else.
Had the winner been McCain, how would the front page had looked? We have to get away from color, but the N&R indicates that it is everything.
I have never seen a paper that provides so little for the price we pay. How much further does this paper have to fall, before you kick in some reforms. I devote less than one-half the time reading the paper than I did 5 years ago.
Writers, except editorial, have little to show for a full time job. Pls, take a look at the paper and restore it to the place it need to be.

Sorry you feel that way, Mr. Stafford. Maybe it means you are a faster reader than you were five years ago. :)
If Sen. McCain had won, the front page would have had a large photo of the winner, with a similar headline. We would have included a story about his victory on the front page, too.
Sen. Obama's victory was historic because of his race. That had to be reflected in our coverage this morning.

When will you publish the precinct by precinct breakdown? Years ago, it was always the day after election.
My Mother and Father taught me to not judge people by the color of their skin. Why should I be shocked that a black became President? Is my belief in a color blind society out of date?

We are not publishing a precinct by precinct breakdown. We haven't for several years. In the Internet age, we haven't needed to. You can get to them from News-Record.com.
I don't know that you should be shocked that an African American has been elected president. But Obama's election is certainly the biggest news story of the year. And the demand for Wednesday's newspaper here and nationwide is an indication of its significance.

Is a newspaper driven by giving the readers what they want or is it driven by what they need?
It is amazing to see the paper chasing after readers that buy one copy every four years at the expenses of those that have been with you every day for decades. I suppose you think of this as "reaching out".
If the election is so important, then give all of us what we need and want.

It's not one or the other, Joe. It's both: want and need.
Personally, I think you're making false assumptions about who is buying yesterday's paper.

Lex, you're right. Circulation tells me we came close to selling out on 9/12.
