I cannot stand people who park in the fire lane. It is a safety hazard. If there was an emergency, fire trucks would have no place to park and no chance of fighting a fire and saving the people inside.
Today's people want to have it their way. They need to stop being so lethargic and apathetic and pay attention to the world around them. I may only be a high school senior, but even I know the rule that says, "Think of others before thinking about yourself." Nevertheless, some people out there do not care.
When I see someone doing the wrong thing, I want to tell him or her -- for instance, if they are parking in an emergency lane -- how would you feel if the ambulance was coming for you and it couldn't get to you because of this?
The next time you see this happening, tell someone. I think if someone parks in the fire lane, that person should get a ticket. While we are at it, shame on the people who "illegally" park in a handicapped space as well.

I agree 100%. I also think that handicapped parking should be vigorously enforced. I was at Target on Wendover Avenue and spent a moment observing the 'handicapped' people using those parking places. First of all, just because you have a handicapped marker hanging from your rearview mirror does not make you handicapped. I saw plenty of healty people with these markers and it makes me sick. They probably have them for taking a sick relative to the doctor, but using them when that sick relative isn't with you is unethical and immoral. There should be a special police force just for enforcing these rules. The fines should be heavy enough to pay the cost of the enforcement. And anyone caught using a handicapped sticker or parking place illegally should be required to volunteer with truly disabled people. Maybe that would help them see what being disabled is really like.

Just because you cannot see a disability, does not mean that the driver does not have one. Severe respiratory problems are just one example of a disability that might require a handicap placard but not be visible to the naked eye. You might consider educating yourself a bit on disabilities if you are going to rail against those with handicap placards in their vehicles.

Fire trucks have huge bumpers and are built pretty sturdy right? I think that just for kicks, if there is a fire, then the fire truck can ram the cars out of the lane to get to the fire. Person(s) that own the vehicles would have to pay for damages to the truck and their own cars, plus fines for parking there during an emergency. Not to mention I would get a kick out of seeing that first-hand.
