Developers again have destroyed the trees

I wanted to express my dismay and disgust that once again the city of Greensboro and developers have put commerce before the public good.

While driving past the late Burlington Industries office building on Friendly Avenue recently, it was hard not to miss the destruction of all of the beautiful oak trees on that property. It is truly a travesty that the developers and city could not see a way to let these trees remain standing and build around them.

If we are going to allow builders to develop property, they should incorporate the standing trees in their plans; clear cutting land in this manner should never be an option, especially when it involves trees of the size and age that these trees were. It is a sad day for the city and an even sadder vista that we are left with along that street.

I AM THE LORAX AND I SPEAK FOR THE TREES!!!

Friendly center is going to expand so it can offer more overpriced businesses the chance at your dollar. Do you think money grows on trees?

I am sure that the seller of the BI property would have accepted Ms. Gaylor's check if the price was right. Then she could have done anything she wanted to the property.

Ginny Gaylor has a point. If we want to keep Greensboro green and beautiful, we are going to have to start conserving our beautiful hardwoods. I know that every tree can't be saved, but sometimes it seems like developers don't even bother to try.

Mr. t, You are correct in your statement about developers not trying to preserve any greenery in any form. I guess they have forgotten trees serve a purpose greater than the aesthetic value. Human survival depends on green plants and trees. Or else they figure they will be dead and gone before we run out of good, clean air with enough oxygen to sustain life.

Yvonne. I wasn't even thinking about the environmental benefits of trees, but you are 100% right. I definitely enjoy being able to breathe.
