The article about the increase in Hispanics this year to one out of every seven people was excellent. North Carolina is the No. 1 state in the union for the increase in Hispanic growth. Guilford, Forsyth, Wake, Durham and Mecklenburg are the top five counties in the United States for increased Hispanic growth.
In 2005, the Latino buying power (disposable money) in North Carolina is estimated to be $12 billion. In 2004, the Latino buying power in the United States was $686 billion (Selig Center, University of Georgia). It is reassuring to me that many companies are reaching out and learning Spanish through workplace Spanish classes to better communicate with our new Latino neighbors.

... yea, but that does not excuse the flood of illegal immigrants swarming for financial advantage, a clear violation of longstanding laws.
I am very suportive of the Hispanic community, but America cannot absorb neverending swamping of the boat.

Yet, these people are illegal and the legal citizens go the extra mile to make things easier for them just to make a buck! Once again, money is the issue. The love of which (money) is the root of all evil!

Ms. Levitin,
It's a good thing you can speak Spanish because it will soon be out national language.
When will our politicians end this flood if illegal immigrants?

Anybody ever watch on channel 8, Crime Stoppers and the faces they are looking for? Yes, lets love our latino neighbors, reach out and cut them, before they cut us. *wink*
I painted with a broad brush there only to make a point.
I realize all (PC) Latino's are evil and criminals, so you don't have to point that out to me.
Posted by Lilly | June 16, 2005 10:16 AM
PS oooops. I meant to say:
" I realize all (PC) Latino's are NOT evil and criminals, so you don't have to point that out to me." Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Stand in any Western Union on Mexican payday, they send millions in untaxed cash back home to their families. Some of this is used to afford other illegal immigrants the means to come here themselves. As hard as they work for basic survival, imagine when they apply that same ethic to a constituency. The candidate's views won't matter as long as their guy is in office. All for one and one for them, it's just a few years away.

It's good to know there's no racism in this area.
Steve read your post 3 times still makes no sense.
Posted by yellowdog | June 16, 2005 1:19 PM
Why yaller don't ya understand Steve's post.
Let me help ya. It said: Them folks work,a right good number of them for cash since they are illegal, the money don't get taxed, they send it to Mexico or where ever in SA to pay for their cousins to come here, who work for cash, send money home for thier cousins to come here , to....
He further says, they hard working folks and just think what they can do when they apply that same effort to electing somebody to office. Right now, yaller, I'd be worried cause they all might want to vote Republican since the sitting President is not doing anything to seal up the boarders and stop this invasion.
Now do you understand better? Sorry I can't draw pictures on here, crayons won't work on this screen seems like, my grandbabies tried but it don't work.

Thanks Mr. P for the 411 but you forgot to explain the meaning of "Mexican payday". Do all Mexicans get paid on the same day. By the way I know a speach therapist who could help your problem.
I have 2 grandchildren but they aren't old enough to use crayons yet. You are lucky to have grandchildren to play with.

Is a "mexican payday" like a "mexican hatdance" or something?

"It's good to know there's no racism in this area.

1) Mexican is not a race.
2) Yellowdog's second sentence is one of the worst and shortest examples of a run-on sentence that I've ever seen. Fourth grade English teachers must have been on strike when some of you were in school.
Mexicans usually get paid on the last day of the work-week. Employers do this because they know that Mexicans won't come to work the day after they get paid. That's because once they've paid their cousin for rent and sent money back through a wire transfer, it's time to get drunk as shit.

Truth, Am LOL. You and Steve are right on. According to www.negocio.us/business/archives latinos sent $833 billion to Latin America last year (back home to help bring the illegal cousins, brothers, sisters, etc). People can project the spending power of latinos to infinity but the harsh reality is American taxpayers are spending billions of dollars in freebies to this group. A group that is growing more powerful on the backs of the American taxpayer.

Mr. P, Some people never learn, do they!
Posted by Yvonne | June 16, 2005 6:02 PM
the shame of is os those Mexicans work circles around the average lazy American. I don;t like them being here illegally, but the modern American worker needs to be ashamed of his work ethic - spoiled and doesnt know what he has, that's why he doesn't bother voting either.
OK - call me a commie - but Many (not all) act that way, and you know it

Unfortunately not Yvonne, not until it is too late. I lived in some small towns in Texas where English was the language no matter where you were from when it came to doing business. I visited there last year and let's just say that if you didn't speak at least some Texmex, you were in trouble.
No JD I won't call you a commie because you have spoken the truth. The majority of kids today don't have to work and certainly don't want jobs that you have to get dirty doing. The other kids won't work because that is the way they were raised. The feel the world owes them a living. My daddy had a saying about some folks. He said they wouldn't take a job in a mattress factory testing matteress and sampling cream pies. Reason being, the strain would be too much tasting the pies.
Growing up we fought and competed even with city kids for jobs cutting tobacco and putting up hay. Eight dollars for a short day (10hrs) and 10 dollars for a long day (12hrs) Prior to the late 50's we made half that if we were lucky. I can remember 10 cents an hour for clearing fence rows and happy to get it, man I was rich.

Mr. P,
You should have been with me last Sunday at Taco Bell on High Point road. While I was eating my bean burrito, one of the employees (a young unclean black male) starting using every profanity in the book to explain why his job was so hard. He effin had to mop the flow, take out da gd trash, AND clean the muddafuddin bafrooms. While the full-time employees didn't do sh$t. After about a 5 minute tirade, he finally went back to work. If you can call leaning on a counter, rolling your eyes, and picking boogers work. His Asian immigrant counterparts continued filling orders, wiping down counters, and working hard. It was a SAD statement about young Americans and their work ethic. The bean burrito was pretty good, though.
Posted by truth | June 17, 2005 12:18 PM
Truth, thanks for the english lesson and thanks for the sociology lesson as well. Nope no racism around here.
Mr. p. haven't had the pleasure yet of fishing with my grandson but I'm looking forward to it. Oh by the way, Truth can help with your language problem he's an expert. Oh, and you will be glad to hear he isn't a racist.
Posted by yellowdog | June 17, 2005 1:36 PM
Naw, Now Truth, I ain't eatin no dang bean burrito where one of the help is leaning on a counter pickin boogers. I mean, YUCK, that sucker mighta flipped one of the big ole things back into the bean dip, or the taco fixin's.
You gotta be braver than me , that fo sho.
As to the work ethic, you are so right. What a shame. I know, some kids work their butts off to try to make some spending money , or pay insurance on the car but others, man they should be so ashamed that on payday they would back up to get their check. But then they ain't ashamed cause momma and/or daddy didn't give em any rasing and teach em what work is. Problem is, it sure ain't getting any better.
Posted by mrproduce | June 17, 2005 1:37 PM
Not to worry Yaller. I am use to folks making fun of my language but I have to keep in practice and ifin you be used to dat dar kinda talkin you know what I talkin bout. I am a bit out of shape on the spelling of some of my words. I do use it however in writing short stories and such occassionaly and hope to put together a book in the near future on stories heard in the hills when I was growing up. I want to try to make it as authentic as possible, using language as spoken in the area where I grew up. I do a better job in talkin it fer folks when I git to tellin tales bout stuff dun happind in da hills.
Seems as ifin Truth don mine my talkin much. hahahha . Might though when reading my minder bout the taco what he et.
Posted by mrproduce | June 17, 2005 1:44 PM
I agree about the boogers in the burrito. I didn't think about it at the time. I was too busy wishing a stray bullet would find its way into that guys head that I didn't even ponder the chances a stray booger found its way into my burrito. It will be a while before I can run to the border again. :)

"truth" was the manager mexican and couldnt understand this young black man's ranting and raving? LMAO.
Posted by Lilly | June 17, 2005 5:06 PM
Lilly,
It seemed like all the full-time staff and management were named lixous chaieo maing or something similar. Strangely, every group seemed to be present EXCEPT for the Latino/Mexican group. I think they understood him but they were just biding their time. Their will probably be some really juicy steak in the stuft burritos next week, though.
Posted by truth | June 17, 2005 5:33 PM
there, not their. see, yellowdog, i can't help correcting myself either. The spelling of stuffed as stuft was taco bell's idea.
