« It's time to realize we're in a world war | Main | China keeps building strength of its military »

Chinese general didn't get Roberts' message

I am always amused by these columnists, particularly those of the liberal persuasion, whose commentaries attempt to ease our fears of attack from our enemies, whether real or potential. I refer in this case to Rosemary Roberts, whose recent column (July 8) indicated her confident assurance we had nothing to fear from Communist China.

It now appears her message failed to reach Major Gen. Zhu Chenghu in time to keep him from making his threats to nuke us if we live up to our commitment of military assistance to the Chinese government in Taiwan in case of attack.

I agree,Mr.Quesenbury. I saw on one of the cable news shows last week a retired general and "military expert"(forgive me for not remembering his name) who proclaimed that in a "nuclear exchange" the US would win. I'm not so sure about that. China has been building military might for decades now while people like Rosemary Roberts look at the world through rose colored glasses and assure the rest of us(the unenlightened)that all is well.
China could most likley inflict enough damage during a "nuclear exchange" to put an end to our way of life forever. And they have ALREADY won on the economic front.

I also agree with Mr Q that these liberal thinkers are a real danger to this country including those on the top shelve. The RED Menace is still there no matter how close they hold their "option plans".
Their goal is to rule the world and Rosemary is just another liberal who thinks communists are nice guys!
Thank God, the real story is that "they" are in a srinking minory!

Billy F. Hammack

Mr. Hammack, In March of this year I posted about what we are discussing now. I stated China owns about 75% of our debt and are growing increasingly concerned about our ability to repay, especially with the devaluation of the dollar. People called me an alarmist. I am a liberal so the right automatically dismissed me.

Realizing China is a threat to us is not liberal or conservative thinking. It's called being a realist and any political persuasion can be one.

The US has no business guaranteeing protection to a breakaway province of China.

Yvonne...If you believe Red China dosen't have our best interest at heart, maybe we can have some common ground to serve as a "memorandom of understanding" and a basis to discuss important issues of the day.

It is truly unfortunate that liberals, as a general rule, don't share your realism! I wish it were not so.

Just as dangerous as Red China is Islam. I don't think it is a peaceful religion. I offer as proof the last "1400 Years of War" with itself and its neighbors.

We live in a dangerous world and the liberals I know don't seem to care. If you are one who does, I feel better!

Conservative Principles are usually bound up in Biblical Principles and these are what liberals find impossible to support.

Darrin's comment just below yours show how out of touch he is with History and why a treaty was made by the US Government (Congress speaks for we the people) and it is made up of the right and the left.

Talk about some on your side of the asile not being a realist, there is just one example!

I don't know how I missed the comment, but somehow I did. I refer to the comment by a gentleman named Darren, who responded to my letter to the editor dated July 28. His comment:
"The US has no business guaranteeing protection to a breakaway province of China."

It is apparent that not only is he not acquainted with reality; he is also unfamiliar with his history book.
