When someone "understands" or can see something that is not apparent to everyone, we say that they "get it."
Your editorial (July 29, not posted) about the Forbes magazine writer who came to Greensboro to see if it really should be last on their list came to understand, in her words, that we are "Greensbooming."
Simply, having been here, she "gets it." Do you "get it"?
Your line, "She likes us, she really likes us," implies that Greensboro is like an unwanted, low-self-esteem city that, lacking confidence, sits in a corner waiting for anyone to notice us.
There are many in Greensboro who "get it," and that is not their perspective. Greensboro "has it" -- we just need to look in the mirror and see that we have so much of what really matters. We don't need a magazine's ratings, good or bad, to know that. We also don't need our local newspaper to not "get it."
We need to delight in and understand who we are and continue to grow and celebrate our charm. Greensboro "has it," and we all need to "get it."

I agree. Greensboro has it. However, if certain people in our community continue to push to make Greensboro the next Charlotte, we'll soon be saying "Greensboro had it"

the idea of saying that greensboro "has it" is all in the eye of the beholder. For some people, this is the best place to live. For others, raliegh or charlotte or the beach may be more appealing. We were compared to a bunch of other cities and we were in last place...but we werent compared to every city in america. I didnt see Mobile, AL on there. i didnt see Brownsville, TX on there. we were 50 out of 50 polled....how many cities are in america? let it go people. we placed. maybe dead last but we placed. and wasnt this a poll catered toward singles in the age range of 18-35? how many of yall are married and still think you are fighting the good fight for the younger generation?

If we have to keep saying we "got it" in an effort to inspire people, then I am sorry folks we really don't have it. If the city was inspired, growing and vibrant than we wouldn't have to be compared to others. We would simply see the greatness of the city and community. Sorry Greensboro is still a mill town, stuck in a slow way of life. Which by all means is fine for the folks that desire that. I mean in reality, Greensboro really is nothing but a large suburb and a great place to raise kids. Unfortunately though, the young people move out and the city will continue down a path that is rather unexciting. We have thousands of students graduating each year(UNCG, A&T, Guilford, Greensboro College, etc) but these people move on to cities that simply do have it - from every aspect - exciting clubs, great restaurants (my god this city is nothing but crappy chain restaurants), vibrant events, an identity, a culture, yada, yada. Maybe one day the people of Greensboro will get it or maybe they like it just the way it is. Either way it is their choice.

Max,
If all the young people are moving out, then how do you explain the constant rise in the population? How do you explain the endles townhomes/apartments/condo's being built on top of each other? How come this dying town keeps getting bigger and bigger highways running through it? How come a new Wal-Mart and Target and Home Depot keeps going up here and there?
I argue that this town isn't dwindling away but growing faster than the infrastructure can handle.
