One wonders if the rare individual who claims to await anxiously any conclusions, recommendations or other emanations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is really sincere. When those involved have in their majority people who have already decided the outcome beforehand, mutual understanding and an abrogation of prejudice and animosity among the participants are most unlikely to be in the offing.
Rather than blame one side in the "Death to the Klan" rally -- which seems to be the goal of most commissioners -- it seems to me that the only intelligent and constructive conclusion is to castigate both sides severely and then "get over it." The event was another example of two sets of fools shooting at one another with one set loaded with expert marksmen and the other set able to aim only vitriol and condemnation at its opposition.

You are correct Marion, this has been investigated and investigated over and over again. I'm not so sure sbout the goal of "to blame one side". I think as soon as (if) the trc publishes it's finding, then we'll see the true reason for this "investigation". $$$$$$.
Have a nice day,Ed.

I can't wait. In 20 years, we'll have a truth and reconciliation about OJ.

What evidence is there that most of the commissioners have a predetermined point of view? The writer states that but does not back it up in any way.
Truth, I think your OJ analogy is actually on the money. I've actually been meaning to use it in a column of blog post. Think of the racial divide over that verdict. What does it tell us about perceptions of the police and the justice system in this country? That's something I hope this process reconciles -- some of that tension and distrust in our own community.
YD, you have nice day, too. And a good weekend.

Judging from the letter written by Steve Flynn some days ago recounting the "testimony" of Claude Barnes about events so long ago, there is little truth coming out. Barnes's speech was riddled with lies designed to make him look good, not the truth the commission claims to be seeking.

Yard Dog,
I enjoy reading your post. However you are wasting your time going up against the Liberal NR. All you have to do is look at the Bushwackers letters to the editor. If Bush found a cure for99% of cancer. The NR headline would Bush ALLOWS 1% of Cancer Victims to Die.
Of course I feel sorry for NR employes that want to have a softball, however they could not, seems they where all LEFT fielders. And I heard the guy that won the nickname money (NR SMOKEBLOWERS) had to give the money back!

Doug, yeah the large majority of them are liberal. But I will give credit where credit is due. At least they allow these blogs. It's just that something like this "trc" commission really sticks in my craw. They act as if they can FINALLY get to the truth about this matter. What do they hope to accomplish? I'm not swallowing that crap about "producing an accurate historical document". What are they going to find out that the feds and sbi didn't find out 26 years ago? IMO they are going after another chunk of cash from the city of G'borb and that is part of my tax money. That is my only concern, otherwise they can "investigate" till their hearts content.

As I recall from faded memory, I was a young, single professional something in Greensboro long ago in 1979 when the CWP and KKK clashed. My friends and I discussed many times our wish that the two sides had just killed each other to a person so we would be spared a future of dealing with the accusations, trials and law suits. Neither side should have had standing. The CWP avows overthrowing the US. We all know what the KKK avows.

Who, after all this time, is still being harmed by this? I mean really . . . how asinine.

The T&R farce is a program looking for a cause. What happened in 1979 is irrelevant, and is only being used as a pretext for implementing a program that certain people are staged to benefit from. Seymour Hardy Floyd virtually admits as much (in another post) by stating "The commission's approach has not been tried in this country before. It is very much a trial, and there probably will inevitably be some error. The case chosen for that trial is arguably an imperfect choice for the process, but if there's even some success with it, might it not be in the future applied to more worthy cases?".
It has nothing to do with G'boro or what happened here. It's all about a process that gives relevance (and whatever else) to certain individuals. That's why it needs to be nipped in the bud now.
