Having read the column by David Brooks, "The storm after the storm" (Sept. 6, The New York Times), I realize how intellectually deprived we are due to the decision of the News & Record to drop his column (and Tom Friedman’s) from the paper.
Brooks nailed the problem of the stranded victims of the hurricane in New Orleans (not a white face among them) as being racial. We need his wisdom.

One more time, for all the slow ones out there:
Bush does not hate black people. He hates POOR people.
Get it straight, dumbasses.

Something must be wrong with your TV or your eyes cause I saw a LOT of white faces among the folks that were stranded. Including infant children, single mothers, etc.
Granted, more of them were black, but let's try to keep some truth in your rants.
MrWatkins, Excellent point.

"I realize how intellectually deprived we are... Brooks nailed the problem... as being racial."
I also read Mr. Brooks' column, but I don't share Ms. Wright's summation of it.
Brooks wrote a piece about the convergence of politics, poverty and race following a national disaster, and discussed historical precedent in the United States. I read the column as a thoughtful and thought-provoking contribution to the current discourse on Katrina, grounded by a sobering look at similar incidents in our past.
I didn't hear him say, "It's all about race," but rather that race was a factor, along with poverty and politics. I suppose we all read with our own inherent agendas and perceptions.
To Mr. Watkins: LOL. You made me laugh, even though I disagree.

Economics trumps race every time. Race factors in, but it is certainly not primary.
