If the three rules of real estate are location, location, location, why on earth would we invest $35 million in War Memorial Auditorium, given its location? Having been in its current location for decades, it has done nothing to help the area, and the area has done nothing to help the theater experience.
Also, why would we expand the seating capacity when it is already difficult enough to fill? For sure, Greensboro needs an acoustically and architecturally excellent performing arts facility, but let's locate it in a more inspiring and convenient location, such as downtown, where the theatergoing public can eat and drink within walking distance -- and support an infrastructure that is already in place.

Well for one thing Stamey't closes too early. Just kidding. I agree 100% with this letter. I have wondered many times, why this city insists on throwing money away on something that is clearly not working. You know that the coliseum is a drain on finances even after their big remodel, why can't they learn from their mistakes? Parking is awful, you have to walk a mile around the place to get in from the parking lot and they only have a show worth seeing about 3 times a year. They want to put money in to something that will benifit more then just the people connected to the coliseum, then they should invest in a theater down town. Carolina theater can still be the small venue, and the larger theater can attract the larger productions.

Why invest taxpayer money in any such venue. Let private enterprise build it and make it into a profitable venture.
If it can't make a profit or at least break even, I say can the whole idea.
