When is the News & Record going to really explain why the flu shot is not available to local physicians for their patients?
Recently, you gave front-page coverage to a struggle for deer life; tomorrow you will cover PETA complaints about thin cows. Where is the support for the local doctors who can't get medicine for patients and have to advise of its availability at "big box" stores? How demeaning is this for both the physician and the patient?
Help me understand. Give us answers.

Glenda, Bush has all the flu shots and is making them available only to those who earn $2000,000 or more a year.

I think Ms. Evans is a victim of media hype when it comes to flu vaccinations. Flu shots are available for those who are at-risk. Many families I know who have at-risk relatives (those with breathing problems and elderly) have been able to get those shots with little or no problem. Those who aren't able to get them are those who young and healthy. The media is having people believe that everyone needs to get these shots, but that is not so.
Neocon......two million dollar income? Wow! I want to be friends with those people. ;-P

Joe,
I think you hit the nail on the head. I went 5 years without a flu shot and noticed no difference. I'm not at-risk.
But I do think it is kinda pathetic that flu-shots aren't readily available for those who want them. I can't remember ever having this problem until the last recent years (possibly due to the media scare).
What concerns me is situations like the bird-flu. If it suddenly becomes important that ALL are vaccinated for a deadly flu virus, will they be able to meet the demand in a timely manner. Anything less, at least in the richest country in the world, is unacceptable.

I believe somewhere on CNN or MSNBC or another of the cable news groups I heard that the shortage was less than 17%. I don't beleive that that small of shortage will stop those who actually need the shot from receiving them. If Dr. offices don't have them it could be that they are like many who are afraid to give the shot and have someone get sick and then sue them for a couple of million dollars plus sue the maker for a few hundred million. The news continued to state that the shortage would be made up and shot dosage distrubtated in less than two weeks. At the local VA where I go they could not give them away fast enough and allowed dependents who were at risk to receive the shot there as well instead of having to wait in the Dr. office or at a bigbox store.
Shortage is a perception to be put into the minds of the people so they will have something else to blame the government for.

The perception that health care distribution in the US is uneven or unfair is a liberal conspiracy. We have the finest health care distribution system in the world. Heck, one of my neighbors was distributed by the health care system just the other day. It's time we all got behind our health care distributors instead of acting like everyone deserves healthcare without having to pay, like in some communist countries.
