One of a handful of people your reporters sought out for comments on the resignation of police Chief David Wray for a Jan. 10 article was Willena Cannon, who was prominently featured and identified as a "housing advocate" and "community activist."
Shouldn't you also have noted that Willena Cannon was a member of the Communist Workers Party that sought to start a revolution in Greensboro to overthrow the U.S. government and install a "dictatorship of the proletariat," in part by destroying public confidence in the police?
Shouldn't you have reported that she accused the Greensboro Police Department of planning and carrying out the murders of her comrades on Nov. 3, 1979? Shouldn't you have mentioned that she was charged with inciting riot and interfering with arrest after attacking police officers that day? Shouldn't you have pointed out that her son's lengthy prison sentences were the object of demonstrations by her former comrades and others? Wouldn't this tend to shade her opinions? And don't your readers deserve to know that?
The bigger question is why would Willena Cannon be asked to comment about police matters not involving her in the first place?

ONCE AGAIN A TRUE JOURNALIST HAS COME FORWARD TO EXPOSE THE NEWS-RECORD FOR WHAT IT HAS BECOME. THEY DON'T CARE WHO PROVIDES THE QUOTES THEY JUST WANT TO SELL PAPERS REGARDLESS OF TRUTHS. I STILL HAVE MY COPY OF "DEATH BY JOURNALISM" BY MR. BLEDSOE AND I SUGGEST ANYONE WHO TAKES THE N&R SERIOUSLY TO READ IT ALSO. MAYBE YOU WILL SEE THE LENGTHS THE LOCAL PAPER WILL GO TO SELL PAPERS AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHERS.

The other day Eric, Yvonne & others were commenting on the importantce of accessing news & information from all sources in order for one to make informed decisions.
The N&R would, I assume, be considered mainstream media. I have difficulting trusting MSM often because of what is reported, but also what is NOT reported. This is a classic example & thanks for researching it Mr. Bledsoe.
Some things in the N&R are worth reading, for example I know it is going to rain today, there is road construction on XYZ street and it's closed, and the Panthers beat the Bears Sunday.
But when I see national & international articles written by NYT, LA Times, Reuters, etc. I always look with an eye of scepticism. Ditto for local stories regarding Nov. 1979, Civil Rights Musuem, and similar events. No problem with the Op-Ed section, it's liberal, you already know that, and it is an opinion section. That is where opinions belong. But the liberal bias creeps into the news to the point where there's an elephant standing in the living room and only us conservatives want to admit it.
Good letter Mr. Bledsoe, hope life is well for you. A Communist revolutionary renamed "community activist", sheeesh. Thanks for exposing the truth.

Having known Jack Perdue and family for years, I almost had a stroke reading Jerry's book. I was so angry and sad. The book was well written as are all of his books. We saw that a careless, unfounded accusation can destroy a life. Thanks for reminding me, Heel. This is an opportunity to remember a fine person, Jack Perdue.
I would love to know the answer to Jerry's question.

Carol, I knew Jack also. His kindness is in stark contract to the slander that was heaped upon him.

Mr. Bledsoe,
It is always refreshing to watch you eat the N & R's lunch. My only regret is that you don't write LTE more often but I realize you have more pressing matters that require your attention.
The TRC and Nelson Johnson have received a lot of ink in the N & R of late. ( and BTW a lot of $$$ from the Ford Foundation ) The paper keeps referring to Nov. 3, 1979 as the " Klan-Nazi " shootout. Several readers have written letters pointing out their poor choice of words. These scoldings have actually been published, yet the editors and staff writers persist in using the inaccurate label both editorially and in hard news . More accurate, of course, would be the : " Klan-Communist " shootout.
Thank you for trying to keep them honest. Alas, an impossible dream.

That's because somewhere along the way they became the "Greensboro News & Racecard". All race, all the time. They are worse than Greta Van Susteran on Natalee Holloway...obsessed.
