On the front page of the News & Record (March 21), we hear the final cost of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum could be more than $10 million.
Before we have another fiasco like Project Homestead, where taxpayers' money ends up in the hands of dishonest individuals, it is time for our elected officials to get involved. Let's move the center to the A&T campus before we waste any further funds on Elm Street. Surely there are other citizens beside myself who sense the smell of mendacity in the air.

Huh? That sentence equals this one:
"Before we have another fiasco like Project Homestead, where taxpayers' money ends up in the hands of dishonest individuals, it is time for dishonest individuals to get involved."

My mouth gaped open at this letter also Paul. Dear Lord, is this idea crazy, or what? However it may be a diabolical "plant" from the operators of the money pit that the museum is turning out to be. That would be a brilliant move on their part considering how receptive all of our elected officials are to mega-millions costs overrun projects. At any rate, please pray that our city fathers don’t see this letter and get no more involved that they have been or we are surely looking at a fiasco. That is, a GREATER fiasco.

I've come to classify the Civil Rights Museum with the second coming of Christ: it may happen some day, but I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. On the other hand, Christ isn't asking for tax money.
