What about Jesus?

Regarding Sohail Khan's opinion ("Readers discuss cartoon conflict," H4, Feb. 26): The writer must be new to this country. Jesus has been depicted in cartoons, works of "art" and other media far more vulgar than the "turban cartoon." As much as they offend us, we choose to turn the other cheek, not cut it, and all attachments, off.

That is unless one follows the teaching of the Jesus of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson, John Hagee, James Kennedy, et al. If this is Jesus is followed, then it's a "gettem" Jesus philosophy.

Just like there is only ONE God, there is only ONE Jesus. Falwell and his ilk aren't serving him when they do the kind of things Darryl refers to.

Which, by the way, cannot be compared in any sense to the abominations being done by Muslims worldwide.

Just an observation, but I don't think the Muslims have exclusive claim to atrocities being committed in the name of their god. A quick look at history provides plenty of examples of many of the world's atrocities carried out in the name of a particular deity.

Howie G,

I couldn't agree more. The fact is that any person committing an atrocity is personally responsible for it and doesn't need to be laying the blame on somebody's God.

The problem is that far too often we only recall/remember the "bad" deeds. We fail more often than not to find redeeming value in those people "not like us."

Shalom
