I am very disappointed to read of Joe Killian's article (Life, June 16) about the Greensboro "Entourage." Going back a few weeks, I was saddened by the letters that critiqued Thirsty Thursday and how there is an idea that downtown Greensboro is solely a singles scene of young drinkers who live a decadent lifestyle. This article will only fuel the fire of those who think poorly of the downtown night scene.
I am also saddened by the irresponsible comment about drunken driving that two of the entourage made. As a 20-something with money and time invested into Greensboro nightlife, I must say that not everyone shares the attitude or lifestyle of this over-glamorized group of guys. My friends and I spend a lot of money to hire drivers and limos to drive us safely from the bars back to our homes.
Greensboro residents, please continue to support our downtown life and know that not all of the younger crowd are so engrossed in irresponsible and self-gratifying behavior.

"As a 20-something with money and time invested into Greensboro nightlife"
are you kidding me? you? saddened by irresponsible comments made by other 20 somethings about drunken driving? paying the cover charge and running a tab at the bar does not count as money and time invested. And if you hire drivers and limos to take you around so you can get wasted and get home safely, GOOD FOR YOU! BIG WOOP! Most logical 20 somethings have a designated driver. They still get home safe and dont have to shell out the money for a limo which could be considered living a decadent lifestyle.
Try not to spend your whole trust fund on the downtown nightlife.

Yea == throw a party at your house, ya won't have to drive anywhere. Use the money spent on that limo to pay for 6-string's band - they're better than your average boom-box I'm sure. Heck, I'll play for chicks.

Responsible Decadence sounds like a the name of a Beach Music tribute band.

I think Josh just wants everyone to know he skirts around downtown in a limo...oh, if only we had Cindy Adams, The Post, and page 6 to capture he & his responsible friends on camera & in print as they "invest" in the nightlife of The 'Boro. This is side-splitting...

Sounds like my years in grad school.

Yet another discussion about how people who go downtown just to get drunk (ballpark or bar makes no difference) are really responsible, upstanding citizens. Sorry, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
JDR, you never struck me as one who's theme song would be "money for nothin' and the chicks for free."

Check out the free local rags that advertise for these downtown bars. I think even the Rhino is filled with them. Now, look at the pictures in the advertisements. A bunch of drunk, decadant 20-somethings.
I don't care. I just think that might be where many get the idea that these guys are partying the way they are.

It was nice, for a change, to see someone, "...with money..." get ragged on a little.
Thanks for making my day!

Phillipa:
I once heard Mark K. interviewed, and he said that was a true story. He was hanging out in some rental place, and a couple Furniture Mover guys were in the TV section waiting for their next assignment. MTV was on the TV's, and the guys started talking about the videos. Mark grabbed a pen, wrote down what they were saying, and then added a cool guitar sound later that night.
As for if it fit's moi .. hey, I'm a MAN. Of course the real question is will the chicks have me, and we all know THAT answer (lol)

should we rejoice when others suffer ?
Pro 24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
Rom 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. yeah that sounds right !

I've been thinking a lot about who's cooler: Josh's Crew or the Entourage wannabes? What do you guys think? The Entourage guys have the MySpace stats to back them up, but they seem to be grasping. Josh's Crew has the limo and the responsible investment in nightlife, but he's so SAD about everything. It's a tough call.

Buz, no offense, but why do you have to introduce Biblical passages all the time? Can we hear YOUR opinion in your words?

Be careful Dan, you are now considered "fair game!"

Darryl, I like Buz, he is a good guy even though he has a problem with Catholics like me being considered Christians. But again, I would like to hear HIS opinion, not a Bible quote.

Dan,
So you'd rather here Buz's words than the words of God? Well, isn't that special. Sorry, couldn't resist the throwback to the church lady.

hey dan,
i like you too (even though you're catholic.....only kidding). my post was in response to a post in this thread and the poster is aware of whom it was directed towards.
"but why do you have to introduce Biblical passages " ................................
my answer is rather simple dan and i believe i've stated this before, but here goes.... i cannot separate who i am from who God has called me to be, i honestly try to honor God's teaching by actually applying them to every situation each day, it just seems impossible for me to "see" things without being influenced by what God's word has taught me. i see this approach as stewardship. God has revealed two things in particular to me...one is that "i will serve Him" and two "that i will serve His people". i realize that many here may think i'm a nutcase and that all this God stuff has left me lightheaded, but dan in all actuality it is of little consequence what others think about me, my main focus is to serve God and by so doing it is my goal to serve His people. sorry for the long answer but you asked !
definition of "fair game" (my definition) :
when one professes knowledge of God and endeavors to instruct the blind, but they themselves have a hard heart, deaf ears and blind eyes, yet would allow a fellow believer in the Son of God be destroyed because they could not find enough love in their own heart to remove a stumbling block - then this "one" is fair game to the challenges and truths of Gods reveal word in scripture. just musing........
