Forrester hit the mark on Truth Commission

Congratulations to former Guilford County commissioner and Greensboro city councilman Chuck Forrester for his truthful and forthright evaluation (June 28) on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its follow-up report.

He is to be commended for his honest, unbiased and, most importantly, correct summation and conclusion of the facts involved in that shameful event as well as the report thereafter.

Only unscrupulous individuals would misconstrue the facts of any situation such as this, to further their own biased cause. They are the ones who should be looked into, not the police department.

Thank the lord that it looks like the City Council is giving a big ol' no way to the making an apology thing. They are kicking it back down to the human relations department to come up with a solution. Hopefully they will not come back with a conclusion that people who were not involved need to issue an apology.

I have no problem with either the concept or practice of public review of Police Department actions, but from my perspective the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was dedicated to reconciling little more than their own desire to be in the public spotlight.

Since no one other than the participants on that November day were still concerned about it's ramifications, the Commission's efforts just served to portray Greensboro in a negative light to the outside media.

If I may take the liberty of expressing the majority opinion of the people - both black and white - that Ive spoken to about the events in question it would be this:

One group of fringe idiots with guns taunted another group of fringe idiots with guns and mayhem ensued.

As is both usual and customary.

Tragic? Certainly, but over and done with. The best way to reconcile a tragedy is to learn from it, prevent its recurrence, and move on. NOT to rehash it ad infinitum.

I lived in Forsyth County during the "EVENT" but I would just like to put my apology on record for whatever I might have been doing at the time and not paying attention to the groups involved.

Does anyone out there remember when Bob Mays had to apologize to Mayor Vic Nussbaum for making comments about RR right of way purchased near Southern Foods? I didn't know either one personally, but I was ready to apologize to Mayor Nussbaum, lest I end up in one of those refrigerated trucks..in some sort of 'accident'!

So, put me down for apologizing to everyone involved in the Klan/Nazi shootout. Seems Greensboro has something about apologies, and I want to hop on this bandwagon.

I'm just looking for truth AND reconciliation!
