First, I'd like to thank the News & Record for its coverage of the animal shelter mess.
Second, let me say that you were right to print that sad picture of the euthanasia process.
Finally, I'd like to say I've had it up to here with the infighting that causes many fine animals to be killed. It seems to me that the blame can really be laid at the feet of the county commissioners.
They could instruct the shelter operators to quit playing games and cooperate with the rescue groups, but they don't. Obviously they are too lazy, political, uncaring, uninformed, cowardly and incompetent to do the right thing.
Hopefully, we can remove this entire group from office and replace them with a better group.

Thank you Mr. Hopkins, I am in total agreement with your basic premise.
But once again, we're talking about the GUILFORD COUNTY COMMISSIONER'S and not a rational bunch of mentally stable adults.
Incompetent? Their picture is in my dictionary beside the word.
And in deference to Skip, it's in black and white.

Personally I feel that if you want anyone to step in, you don't want that bunch of yahoo's getting involved. Let them get their noses in to it and the whole thing would probably have to shut down.

Skippy and Billy are the main problems, but unfortunately they seem to be in "safe" seats.

Mr. Hopkins,
You must have missed the last 6 years.
It's always President Bush's fault.

I have to put this out here. It's OT and I am sorry but I know some of you will be interested. In 2006 Nathanial Greene Elementary school has so many kids that they are actually combining grades. Not only do we expect our teachers to deal with out of control class sizes, but now we expect them to split their days between the 2nd and the 3rd grades. I can see where there might be some benefit for an advanced 2nd grader, but what about the ones who are going to end up confused and frustrated from having to endure the 3rd graders getting their teaching? Not to mention the 3rd graders who will have to give up precious hours of the day to 2nd graders while they work quietly. Now I know that school you have time where you work and do it alone, but how would you like to try concentrating on your work while listening to a teacher teach 2nd grade? What the heck is going on? We have schools that aren't opened on time. Talk of yet more bonds and they have Little House on the Prairie going on in the 21st century?

FIRST - Animals are killed at shelters nationwide because people refuse to have their "beloved pet" spayed or neutered. When I worked at the shelter in GC some of the yahoos that dropped off litters of puppies and kittens were regulars - taxpayers who came several times a year to give us their newest addition to ever burgeoning population of pets, most of which would end up in the freezer.
SECONDLY - The county commissioners have NEVER shown the proper interest in what has gone on out at that shelter even when CNN blew in and recorded footage of the dumpster of dog bodies being flipped into the renderer's dump truck or when the bottles of ketamine (controlled substance - known as Special K on the streets) went missing. The GCAS competes with Gibsonville for the title of Red Headed Step Child in this locale...fixing what's wrong at the shelter would require the Dog & Pony Show to actually behave less like 7th graders and do their jobs - easy enough but I ain't holding my breath for it.
FWIW - the only county official I EVER worked with who really worked towards a positive goal regarding that shelter was Sheriff BJ Barnes. He is a dog lover himself (Dobies in particular, unless I'm mistaken) and he was hands on to see that what needed to happen, happened. This rhetoric and whining about competition among rescue groups is a load of crap...
