Let's duck and applaud the leaders in Congress

On Feb. 16, the U.S. House of Representatives "courageously" flung its nonbinding resolution on Iraqi troop deployment in the face of reality and the president.

This inspirational leadership from far to the rear of public opinion stirs the hearts of countless pundits — for perhaps a moment or so. Someone might call this group Profiles to Discourage. A Which Way is the Wind Whirling form of diplomacy makes you want to duck and applaud.

Military strategy is basically getting there firstest with the mostest. For Iraqi policy, Congress suggests we muddle with the leastest, intending to hurt the president more than help the country. How many people think the president enjoys sending any troops to Iraq at all?

Presumably, we should withdraw from Iraq so we can go fight terrorism elsewhere. Yet, it appears that we can find all we want right there already. What we really should want is the united will to do something about it there, now.

Suggestion for Congress? Vanish overnight, take perhaps a three-month vacation, then go back with a vengeance. Before the terrorists come here — again.

Or substitute the ostrich for the bald eagle as a national symbol.

It's kinda funny how the November elections were interpreted; the official "Which Way is the Wind Whirling" diplomacy was taken by both the Congress and the White-house as an indication of a need to change.

Some folks ya just gotta hit on the head.

I would suggest, Mr. Glenn, that fighting off-budget this war for the first 5 years was a nonbinding resolution - but not very courageous. The first counter-attacks after Osama, sure, and maybe even the first few months of the Debacle in Iraq - but don't cha think one the rhetoric changed from Mission Accomplished and "Last Throes" to "Not on my watch", that there should have been some fiscal accountability?

By the way, the "muddle with the leastest" was Rummy's idea. Don't you read, Mr. Glenn? I'm not being sarcastic.

How many people think the president enjoys sending any troops to Iraq? I don't think he "enjoys it - I'm also not convinced he initially understood, accepting without question that shock and awe thing, with flowers at the feet, etc.

I'll tell you one that took special glee at the President sending troops to Iraq:

Ayman al-Zawarhihi, one of Bin Ladin's top terrorists said upon USA’s entry into Iraq: "The Americans are facing a delicate situation ... If they withdraw, they lose everything, if they stay, they will bleed to death."

January 6, 2006 - al-Zawahiri says U.S. President Bush's plan to withdraw troops from Iraq means Washington had been defeated in Iraq. al-Zawahiri is quoted as saying, "Bush, you must confess that you have been defeated in Iraq and in Afghanistan and you will be in Palestine soon."

Help me out .. did the elections of November 'o6 happen - before - January 'o6?

Beautiful letter. It was like a poetry and peeling an onion.

I love this "ostrich" talk from a supporter of Bush's war in Iraq. Mr. Glenn, my friend, you are definitely "reality challenged". Hope you have a family and a tight support group to be with you over the next few months. Warmer weather and sunshine will probably help you feel better. In the mean time, turn off the Fox Noise Channel and go outside for some fresh air.
