Guilford County Schools isn't recognizing Presidents' Day with a holiday this month. Many local residents, especially those with children in the public schools, will notice the school system's failure to honor two of the country's most important presidents and the institution of the presidency.
I hope that residents who want this holiday included in the school calendar will tell the school board so in the future, as I will.
On their own, parents can recognize the holiday by reading a book or watching a movie about the presidents with their children.

Considering America in no longer in the top 25 of world standards for H.S. Academic Grads ...
Considering America kids spend less time in school then kids of most developed countries ...
Considering most America kids given this day off will just goof off ...
.. maybe on Presidents Day they should be required to stay in school, dedicated to learning about these True role models.

They had to go to school in Rockingham county as a snow make up day, which I am fine with. I have to wonder though....would the schools also have used Martin Luther King jr. day as a make up day? I doubt it.

At least our kids have to attend more school days than Congress does work days. The poor Senate had to work on Saturday (can ya believe it?) to attempt a non-binding resolution. Now they get the entire week off for Presidents Day!
BTW, I'm glad Congress is taking a week off. The less time they spend working the less time they figure new ways to spend my money.

true role models, jdr?
I wouldn't want my kids choosing any politician, lawyer major sports players as role models...hell, actors too for that matter. I think i would want my kids to go back to a simpler time when their favorite comic book hero was their role model.
I support the kids not having this holiday off. it gives me a chance to see Ghost Rider in peace.

Dan and JDR,
I have to agree with you.
To carry it further, if President's Day isn't really that important, then why are Federal employees off today? Is it not important that the mail be delivered?
I don't mind MLK day. I just wish it was celebrated during warmer weather.
