Roman Catholic Church fails to follow scriptures

This responds to Charles Hawes' letter, "Liberal Democrats are Roman Catholics, too" (Feb. 25).

All those Hawes mentioned are ardent supporters of abortion on demand. They remain Catholics in good standing because the Roman Church won't follow the scriptures on excommunication.

In 1 Corinthians 5:1-8, Paul orders the immediate excommunication of a man having an affair with his stepmother. What's worse, having an affair with stepmom, or supporting the American holocaust?

The Roman Church won't excommunicate elected officials who support the unfettered slaughter of millions of innocents. But, according to a Fox News Channel story a few months ago, it recently excommunicated an African archbishop. What was his crime? Appointing four married men as bishops. (Paul requires a bishop to be a married man; see 1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:6.)

So, the Roman Church considers having married men as bishops to be a worse crime than our abortion plague. And is it really pro-life when it lets abortiaholic politicians remain members in good standing, including Ted Kennedy, who is a member of the Knights of Columbus?

"abortiaholic" I think you just coined a new phrase.

"because the Roman Church won't follow the scriptures " We don't stone people anymore, either. Gotta problem with that?

"What's worse, having an affair with stepmom, or supporting the American holocaust?"

If you knew my stepmom, you'd realize that's not an easy question to answer.

the ltte writer is correct when he says that paul charges the corinthian church to ex-communicate the man who is having an affair with his fathers wife and most people who do not study the bible just leave it at that. but if you really want to know pauls heart (and Gods intention), read 2nd cor. 2:1,8 and you will see that paul encourages the corinthian church to forgive him, comfort him and love him, lest he become discouraged that he cannot recover. imo if one is using the catholic church as our standard for christianity, be prepared to be disappointed. one would be better off simply using the word of God (the scriptures) as their guide and reference, seeking the Holy Spirit to guide them in truth.

Good post, Buz.

This isn't meant to be a knock on the catholic church in any sense, but in some ways, they remind me of the Jewish leaders during Jesus's ministry in human form. The focus often seems to be very narrowly defined to tradition, form, legalization, and rules and regulations that were created along the way.

I'm totally ignorant on Catholicism and am not afraid to admit it. So take my statements with a big grain of salt.

Like Nit, I know only enough Cathol'ism to be dangerous ... but my shallow knowledge keeps me hesitant of charasmatics, world "leaders", and everything but dog, cats, and kids under the age of 10ish. Everything else is suspect.

Al,
Like we needed any more "proof" of Catholic hypocrisy?

KNOWN PEDOPHILES MOVED FROM PARISH TO PARISH.

Not unlike the days of old, the Catholic church reponds quickly to money and power.

Hey Al, why hold back? Tell us how you really feel about abortion!

And please, do not stop at Catholic politicians who support pro-choice. Let us begin a discussion about Catholic politicians who support state murder (i.e. death penalty). Our own Gov. Mike Easley comes to mind first! So Al, let us talk about the American "holocaust" in this form as well!

I await your response.

Shalom

James,

I gotta agree with that last sentence.

I don't know what happens after 9, but it ain't pretty.

“They remain Catholics in good standing.”
Hardly. They do not remain Catholics in good standing. Excommunication or not.

(Paul requires a bishop to be a married man; see 1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:6.)
Required? Was Paul, the person and eminent church leader speaking in 1st Timothy; not Celibate, unmarried and happy to be so? (1 Cor. 7:32), (Matt. 19:12)
