I am writing to express a burden. Anyone who does not own real estate property should not be an elected official on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners. Nor should anyone who does not own real estate property be privileged to vote on the bonds. That has caused the taxpayers a burden, and a lot of us are on fixed incomes that will go just so far.

and let me guess... you propose seperate bathrooms and water fountains for "non-real estate owners" also?

While this letter is a stretch, I do think there should be another way to spread the tax burden carried by property owners.

The phrase that gets me is, "real estate property." So, since I own no real estate, would that mean that I no longer have to pay property taxes on my automobile? sales taxes?
Someone please find out if this is what Ms. Hatfield is advocating and get back to the blogs!

The writer has a good premise to her letter, she just doesn't understand how things work nor does she offer suggestions. Living in an apartment doesn't mean you aren't on a fixed income nor does it mean your children shouldn't benefit from the money the schools will receive.
Take this one more step Carolyn and offer an option to that is a fair alternative.
