Southeast coach owes students an apology

It seems that schools are now doing what society has done for years: placing their athletes on a pedestal regardless of the degree of "wrong they have done." I am not going to comment any further about that.

What I do want to comment on is the other 1,398 students at Southeast High School whom Coach Scott Smith obviously doesn't know and, for that matter, neither does Principal Keith Kremer, or he would have made a comment about the character of Southeast High.

Certainly, this high school is no different than any other in the area. There are the students who choose to drink, some choose drugs as their path, others decide that there are "unmentionable" things they prefer to do.

But for Coach Smith to say, "I guarantee you that of the 1,400 students here, (the players charged) are the only two I can guarantee you were not drinking," I will say what a poor choice of words to use, Coach Smith. I believe that you owe a lot of students, with character, an apology.

I'm in your corner, please reference my comments in yesterday's letter to the editor regarding this same incident.

I think that we are all trying to be part of a fair and viable solution(s)

ahhhh.........here we go again..... making mountains out of molehills....
Mr. Smith owes NO ONE an apology. I applaude him for sticking up for 2 students that he knew for a FACT, were not drinking! All you holy people out there who don't know the facts! Maybe he knew these players better than all of you people out here trying to crucify these guys. He obvioulsy knows more about the situation than anyone else. He was there.
IF all this concern is suppose to be to help our youth, then move on to next poor kids out there who might be in the wrong place, at the wrong time OR the next kid who may make a split decision to do something that is not right. OH MY Gosh! the paper would be completely full of nothing but these problems.....There are many, many, many, many, other athelets out there that have made bad decision too and yet we never hear about them!
Move on to the next school, or county...or kid....whatever... get over your holy self!

concerned parent, I suggest you change your "moniker."

Since you are lambasting any who comment in OPPOSITION to the way SEGHS handled the alcohol situation with some of its athletes because those who do supposedly do NOT know the facts; why not fill in the general public? Otherwise, the harshness in your posts is invalid.

Or could it be that maybe you might be the parent of one of those young men charged and are not liking the fallout from the public over the INJUSTICE perpetrated by SEGHS and the administration thereof?

I agree totally and completely with Cindy Baker in her LTTE above.

And to accuse LTTE writers such as Ms. Baker and others as "holier than thou" is a classic example of angry guilt spewing forth.

So, I suggest that maybe you concerned parent "come clean" or tone down the hatred being spewed.

Shalom

I gotta agree with Darryl on this one.

Take a chill pill. (but only if you're over 18 and not playing sports)

;)

No,I am not one of the parents of these kids, but I am a parent with 2 teenagers- both athelets and like alot of kids out there,(athelets or not) they both have made their share of wrong choices. But,to see people trying to make an example of just these 2 kids is wrong. There have been MANY, MANY other athelets from other school that have been "caught" and ticketed for underage activities, but their stories have not been posted out here... yet this story just seems to go on and on and on. Maybe someone out there who has a grudge against SEHS - or maybe even one of these kids. Those two kids were not the only ones involved, but they are the only ones that are continually being bashed!
If it appears I am "spewing" forth anger,it would be for the injustice of any kid that you "holier than thou" people kept dragging through the mud..
It could just as easily be your kid!!
And that, Mr. Darryl, is MY POINT!!

Darryl,

Do not take CP's rants too seriously as I suspect it is the person who used to post here frequently with the same anger and hate spewed forth. The disdain, the anger, the wordage, the attacks are trademarks of this person.

I have children who were involved in sports when they were in school. (One now plays tournament tennis on a small time state basis. But for a guy almost 44, it shows initiative.) My point being, any of my boys could easily have been one who made the same stupid mistakes as the kids in question. However, I choose to see this as a missed learning experience for these kids rather than the kids being the objects of persecution. So what if other athletes get away with the same thing. One does the children no favors to ignore the "wrongness" of their behaviors simply because "others do it". This "he/she did it too" attitude shows a lack of maturity.

My point is proven yet again.

Shalom
