New Orleans muddled its spending priorities

I read the article, "New Orleans is dying" (Aug. 27), and couldn't believe my eyes. People couldn't believe that the government was in so many words ignoring the city.

If I recall correctly, didn't the government help out with millions of dollars to help build a new stadium? Seems to me the people of New Orleans and their local government should have thought about priorities first.

I am not trying to sound cold-hearted, but I find it extremely hard to feel sorry for a city that was devastated as much and would rather put what money it had into a stadium versus its housing.

Randy, as with most of the media, they don't know what they are talking about when they talk about New Orleans. Unless they have worked with FEMA, they haven't a clue as to what is going on. My husband works with FEMA. They have handed out billions to these people. Drive through New Orleans and you'll see brand new vehicles in the drive parked next to the FEMA trailers.

Why is it that no one talks about how Mississippi was hit just as bad? The people of Mississippi have picked themselves up and moved on.

Why is it no one talks about how the City of New Orleans is 17 feet BELOW sea level and they want to build it back up! Who originally came up with the idea to destroy the swamps (which were a buffer against flooding)around NO and build a wall to hold in the lake? Why don't they hold that person accountable?

There is so much more the general public AND the media doesn't know, but they are all good at running their mouths.

Just last night on TV in New Orleans the people were crying about how they want the city to rebuild the public housing district because they don't like living in trailers. They have a roof over their heads, what is their problem?

The politics is worse than North Carolina politics (I didn't think that was possible!). Ray Nagin's family owns a business that is contracted to help rebuild the city. Look up who is doing all the work in downtown NO with the marble walks. You will find, buried down the line, a company owned by the Nagin family.

Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

"Drive through New Orleans and you'll see brand new vehicles in the drive parked next to the FEMA trailers."

Could that possibly be because their cars were lost as well as their home????????!!!

Wow! TJ, is your real name Barbara Bush?
Guess you think "Brownie" was doing a "heckuva job" too.

`

TJ, thanks for helping us to better understand the posted rant with the last sentence; "Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see."

TLC, I am surprised you did not catch this one!

Shalom

Mississippi Gulf Coast devastated, New Orleans devastated. One is rebounding nicely and the other is a helpless cesspool.

One has Republican Governor, other is controlled by Dems. Guess "Brownie" was told to help Hailey Barber.

"One has Republican Governor, other is controlled by Dems."

Damn good point, TLC. Have you changed party affiliation?

`

Nitwit,
I could never be a Republican, because I like all people! Black people, Mexicans, gay people, straight people, Red and yellow, black and white, etc.

If you are a Republican today, you have to love war, guns, and the Old Testament God. To be Republican today means you hate minorities, children, the elderly, and the physically and mentally infirmed. To be a Republican means you love America, but hate most Americans. To be Republican, you must have two
lives--the one you talk about and the one you live.

So no, I have not affiliated with the GOP. They are a very attractive party for racists of all stripes though. Pretty soon, they'll be a "Southern" regional party of the myopic. God bless America!
