« City should emphasize 'green' in Greensboro | Main | Lawmakers have made notable strides in ethics »

Sadly, some people still thirst for bloody thrills

Recently Gene Owens had a column in your newspaper about pro football player Michael Vick's alleged hosting of dog fighting on his property. Sunday you had a column by Charles Davenport Jr. on the same subject. Both were excellent columns.

Thank God for people who will stand up for helpless animals being used in a savage blood "sport."

I just watched "Gladiator" again on TV. People haven't changed much over the centuries. They still enjoy watching people and animals tear each other to pieces. So much for the theory that mankind is evolving for the better.

Since Vick enjoys watching a bloody "sport," perhaps he'd like to do some time in Iraq. Athletes should not be above the law. On the contrary, they should be moral role models for young future athletes.

And, by the way, there is something we can do besides clucking our tongues and shaking our heads. We can support organizations like the Humane Society and PETA.

PETA and HSUS are no different than Haliburton and Walmart- money, not animal welfare, is the bottom line.
Better to support your local shelter and the hardworking employees and volunteers.

PETA consideres me a murderer and horrid parent because I go fishing from time to time. They in no way will EVER get a dime from me or my family. Support your local shelter to make a difference. PETA has long since left the realm we know as reality.

I prefer hamster fighting myself. ;)

Hey Mick...I'll whack a house fly in my kitchen. PETA will condemn me for that terrible act of violence against an animal. If they knew where I lived, they would send secret agents to beat and kill myself, and my entire family. Whatever, right?
I would like to see convicted sexual child molesters/murderers put in a ring two at a time with a club. The survivor would get to fight the next preditor. At the end of the show, the surviving preditor gets to live in a cage the rest of their life. Put on one of these entertaining exhibitions every couple of days. Dad Gum, have I got a sick mind or what? This has been a rant by the Dog. The Dog's outa here.

The lady had a good letter until she mentioned supporting PETA. I like dogs like the next guy but I didn't have any problem eating my chicken sandwich tonight. Buuuurrrppp!!
