The impending sentencing of professional football star Michael Vick fails to overshadow the heinous and barbaric crimes of which he is accused.
Despite the efforts of animal rights activists and organizations throughout the nation and the world, the facts of the case against Vick show that more must be done to stop the recreational slaughter of domesticated animals throughout the United States.
In a society hopelessly inundated with celebrity arrogance and superstar egotism, the criminal justice system has an opportunity to hold Vick accountable for every aspect of his actions.
To show Michael Vick any leniency simply because of his social status or financial stability would be not only a disturbing setback for the continuing crusade against animal cruelty, but also a great injustice to the living beings that were viciously slaughtered for sport under his watch.

Benjamin, the following statement reminds me of something; "...a great injustice to the living beings that were viciously slaughtered for sport under his watch." I am reminded of Casey Bokhoven & Tolly Carr.
Tolly will serve about 25 months (or less) for killing a fellow human being. This was premeditated in my opinion. Tolly chose to drink; chose to drive, knowing full well that to do both of those at the same time was a volatile mixture of a serious accident waiting to happen.
And to think that he may have the opportunity to talk to young people about NOT drinking and driving is a slap in the face to the Bokhoven family.
I am in agreement that Vick needs to be held accountable and not shown partiality in judgment due to his name and social standing. I found it highly suspect that in Vick's apology that he called his actions "immature." Yet he NEVER said he was wrong or anything of that nature. That tells me that he is NOT remorseful for what he has done/been involved. That is a larger tragedy.

"Tolly chose to drink; chose to drive, knowing full well that to do both of those at the same time was a volatile mixture of a serious accident waiting to happen."
Studies have proven that driving while talking on a cell-phone is as dangerous as drinking and driving.
Therefore, all people who talk on cell-phones while driving should be convicted of attempted murder.
As Spock would say, It's only logical.
