Public Square update
One of the first things I wanted to do to our Web site was to enable reader comments on every staff-written story we post online.
The good news: We'll be able to do that, and we will do it.
The bad news: Our new Web-publishing software has to get here first, and it's still probably several weeks out.
Meanwhile, our tech folks are looking at some other changes we'd like to make. When I know more, so will you.

How 'bout older technology , say like the telephone, where open line comments, on any subject can be transcribed and published. Call it " The Vent ", opps that is already taken. Well, have a contest to name it. Grand prize , a years free subscription.

We've thought about that. The problem with taking stuff by telephone is that someone has to transcribe it, and that's slow and tedious work.

Are you planning to use Publicus for comments on articles? If so, is Saxotech doing some custom programming for you? I'm curious because I haven't seen a Publicus site that does quite what you're proposing.

Barry, the online folks tell me Publicus will do that. Whether that's standard or a custom build, I couldn't tell you.

I just noticed the addition of pictures to stories published online. Good job! One minor complaint, though: The photo and cutline need to have some cellpadding added. Body copy from the stories get awfully close to the photo border.

Jason, that was photo director Rob Brown's doing, and I'll pass on your comment to him. Thanks!
