Truce in the culture wars?
Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" is nominated for three Academy Awards, all relatively minor (cinematography, makeup, music).
Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is nominated for zero. Zip, zilch, nada.
Looks like Hollywood wants a depoliticized Oscar show this year.
(I have seen neither film, in case that matters.)

So, Lex, what is the point of your comentary? You opine that the decision to ignore Micheal Moore was to depolitize the Oscars. Could it be that they considered "Farenheit 9/11 to be void of artistic or social value?

Jasper, the point of my commentary was just what I said it was: Given that neither "F9/11" nor "Passion" got any nominations in major categories, it "looks like Hollywood wants a depoliticized Oscar show this year." A nice, safe TV show that will annoy neither Red nor Blue staters, in other words.
The key words here are "looks like": I'm expressing an opinion. I have no idea whether my opinion is correct; I do not know what the real motivations were.
