Tinkerin' 'n' Updatin'
One week (well, actually, eight days) after the launch of the redesigned site, here's what our tech folks are focusing on, according to an e-mail I received today from techie extraordinaire Charlie Stafford:
In related developments, Mike Fuchs, Herb Everett and I are now set up to create new blogs without the involvement of the tech folks. We will begin doing so as soon as the new blog templates are complete, probably early next week. This change gives us more freedom and flexibility to add to our blog stable while freeing the tech folks to do more complex work.
We continue to welcome your feedback on the site, particularly if you have spotted something that doesn't work or thought of a feature we ought to add.

Lex, I like the new Town Square logo. Very unique.

Having had nothing to do with it, I'll pass your comment on to those who did, Roch. Thanks.

Not necessary, Lex. That was tongue in cheek.

I know ... and so do they.

The "speech balloon" art associated with the Town Square logo is an adaptation of the speech balloon we've been using to promote blogs on News & Record since September of 2004, soon after JR launched his blog in August of the same year. The original "thought cloud" can be viewed here.
According to the WHOIS information at Network Solutions, Greensboro101.com was first registered as a domain in November of 2004. I'll let the reader draw his or her own conclusions. :)

Having been part of the original group who was involved with the N&R branding for the blogs in particularly the thought cloud used. I know for a fact there was no registered trademark on a thought cloud associated with a local blog from either company. Besides that, neither are comparably the same. I say we worry more about where our content comes from and how it is generated not a miss match of brand recognition. I can assure you there will be no confusion of the reader.

Logo notwithstanding, templates are King. Wait for the templates and give the template-builders a raise. (that is, after I see them!)
The templates are the future of the whole sheebang.
As for the logo, town "square" seemed to imply to me that a square shape would be there somewhere :)

Nah, Sue, we just chose "Town Square" because "Town Trapezoid," although both alliterative and more nearly accurate from a literal standpoint, just sounded goofy. ;-)
