Gall bladder surgery and a new diet

So it's been a hectic week for me, to say the least. I found out on Monday that I had gall stones and that I would need to lose the gall bladder. On Wednesday, I was recuperating at the High Point Surgery Center, minus one gall bladder, and looking over a list of foods I would need to avoid for the next six weeks. Eventually, I'll be able to work some of them back in (I hope), but in the meantime, this low-fat diet means I need to avoid butter, most cheese, peanut butter(!), and a whole host of other things that basically make up my typical diet.

What does this mean for Mel's Kitchen? Well, it's probably going to get a whole lot healthier as I try to figure out how to eat low-fat without losing the taste.

Ow, ow, ow! I've never experienced a gall bladder attack, but I've witnessed several. At least you won't go through that again, now, I hope? Good luck with the diet change!

Mel said:

Yeah, that's the best part about the surgery ... I won't have to deal with the attacks any more! Thanks. And if you have any suggestions, send them my way, please!

I hope you get well soon! Fortunately we're moving into fresh fruit and veggies season so maybe your transition won't be so bad!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and when I get home I'll forward on my favorite oven "fried" chicken recipe.

one lasted 5 hours. I am scheduled for surgery
next month. What type of diet will i have to
maintain after the surgery and for the rest of my life?

I just had gallbladder surgery on Sept 27, mine was diseased instead of stones. Very ill before & after surgery. Still I have to east fat-free not only because I don't have the gallbladder anymore but because it is good for my high cholesteroal. Great receipes that I certainly will try. Thanks
