I still tell myself that they should have won "Battle for Ozzfest" on MTV. They were clearly the best band on the show.
If it weren't for a small town North Carolina band going against a major metro area in Texas - maybe they would have.
CYN (formerly Cynder) are one heck of a metal band. The band emits raw energy in its live performances.
I had a chance to see the band practice when I interviewed singer Ryan Camp a few months back.
They might practice in a small space, but big things lie ahead for the Triad-area group.
The band recently finished a tour with other bands from the show - Manntis and show winner A Dozen Furies.
The other day, I listened to their most recent CD - "Hide the Light."
I don't know if this is still available, but metal fans should check it out if it is.
"Shiver Syringe" is a good indicator of the bands abilities - especially singer Camp's range. From slow to fast, singing to screaming - it encompasses the whole range of style the band is capable of.
A DJ adds some samples here and there, giving a cohesion to the music.
After hearing the band live - they also fall into the category of being better live than on CD, and getting better with age.
"Hide the Light" gives a good impression of the guys' talents, but should only be an indicator of where they're headed.
Their name was changed for legal reasons, not because of any band member changes.
The band has the ability to slow things down, but usually comes charging on full-force.
The TV show was only a TV show - CYN has the talent to go far. They may not be on Ozzfest this year, but I'm sure a spot isn't far away.
Anyone interested in checking the band out around the Triad can find them here:
