A quick rundown of some of the albums coming out this Tuesday, May 3:
Mike Doughty - "Haughty Melodic"
The former frontman of Soul Coughing is a heck of a songwriter and a great acoustic musician. I believe he's now playing with a full band. I caught his show at Ziggys (along with a total audience of about 15) and was impressed by his solo live show. He's also a heck of a nice guy to interview - another in the long line of former heroin addicts.
Limp Bizkit - "The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1)"
What happened? Limp Bizkit was once at the front of the rap-rock movement, and then the lights slowly dimmed. Their first two albums were fun and unique, but the band then turned into a cliche of themselves. Their last album was only remembered - for better or worse - for their cover of The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes." Now original guitarist Wes Boreland is back in the mix. Hopefully, they'll return to the raw energy of the past.
Nine Inch Nails - "With Teeth"
When a new Nine Inch Nails album comes out, it's almost like a Star Wars movie. Fans wait for years until the next one, and when it's finally released, you're either blown away or sadly disappointed. Early word is that "With Teeth" is a return to form for Trent Reznor. It's not instrumental - it's full-blown Nine Inch Nails. The first single "With Teeth" reminded me of "Pretty Hate Machine." I'm hoping for good things from this one.
Joe Perry - "Joe Perry"
The Aerosmith guitarist is putting out a solo album with covers including The Doors and Woody Guthrie. Something tells me it won't come close to an Aerosmith record.
