Notes on the VMAs

Here's my thoughts on the VMAs:

- Green Day's opening performance was kind of weak. It just did nothing for me.

- "They call me 'Diddy.'" No, Sean, you call yourself "Diddy." We call you crazy.

- These awards are for videos... first off, MTV rarely plays videos anymore. And I wonder if these are really awards for the videos or for the songs.

- Does Kanye West have to mention the release date of his new album every time he opens his mouth?

- Ludacris' performance started off weak, but when other dancers and singers came out - it "kicked it up a notch."

- Best Rock Video. The Killers are not rock.

- Am I really looking at MC Hammer? Wow.... I'm glad it's not a commercial.

- Shakira looks like she's lip synching. What a disappointment. Actually, I think she's using a "backing track." Close enough.

- This R. Kelly soap opera is getting worse by the second. How many times can he say "Rufus" and "Chuck"? Why do people actually like this? And he's lip synching.... It may have been better if there were other people playing different characters. Nope. All we get is R. Kelly.

- Mr. Combs addresses the "Diddy" issue. And we still don't care...

- The Killers are performing now, and I still don't like them.

- Jeremy Piven made fun of Lil Kim going to jail - seems to be a theme of that from time to time.

- Ludacris wins best rap video. It's the worst song, but probably the best video. Maybe they truly are "video awards."

- A well-done combination of a live Snoop Dogg with a video of Notorius B.I.G. is next.

- Coldplay's performance - I thought the vocals were weak.

- Best Pop Video. Ashlee Simpson - please, no. Lindsay Lohan - if she wins I'm banning MTV. Kelly Clarkson gets it. OK, that's reasonable. And funny that she got lost on the way to the stage.

- Kanye West with Jamie Foxx. I still think Kanye is popular because of the samples he chooses. I like Ray Charles.

- Why is there a comedian on the video music awards?

- The Killers win best new artist. Why? Aren't they from the 80s? They sure sound like it...

- Is Mariah Carey lip synching too? What's going on here.....?

- Gorillaz win for breakthrough video. Good choice!

- 50 Cent and Fat Joe don't get along.

- A surprise performance by My Chemical Romance. This is a surprise? Why? We saw them all night.... A surprise would have been Guns N Roses again, or how about Pink Floyd?

- Green Day has won seven of eight awards they were nominated for including Viewer's Choice and Video of the Year. Rock is still alive!

- The big ending performer... Kelly Clarkson. Wh-wh-what?!? Mr Combs says, "You're not gonna belive this!" He's right. I can't believe the big show-closer is Kelly Clarkson. It's now raining inside the theatre. Is that the big surprise?

- I'm disappointed.

This week's new releases

Here's your weekly look at the new releases of the week and, hopefully, some bands with animal names....

30 Seconds to Mars "A Beautiful Lie" - Another one of those bands-with-actors releases. This one has Jared Leto at the helm. I heard the first single, and though it's not that bad, I can't stop from thinking, "There's an actor singing."

Brooks & Dunn "Hillbilly Deluxe" - I'm not a fan of country music...

Eric Clapton "Back Home" - It's Eric Clapton. Though I've heard some bad things about his latest release of originals...

Cold "A Different Kind of Pain" - They had a hit a few years back with "Stupid Girl." I wonder how this one will measure up.

Honky "Balls Out In" - It has J. D. Pinkus of the Butthole Surfers. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

OK Go "Oh No" - I'd stick these guys on the shelf right next to The Killers. That's the "They're kinda popular and I don't know why" shelf.

Rihanna "Music of the Sun" - "Pon de Replay" sure is a catchy song. Something tells me that Rihanna is destined for one-hit-wonder land.

Kanye West "The Late Registration" - It's easy to have hit songs when you sample hit songs. I'm still not impressed by West's singles. I only recognize the familiar sample.

Those animal bands: The Coral (well, it is a living thing...) and the Roadrunner 25th Anniversary DVD.

CD Review: Blues Traveler "!Bastardos!"

BluesT.jpg
Release date: Sept. 13, 2005

I remember, back when I was in high school, spending $5 to go see Blues Traveler play on the Rutgers University campus.

They had just started to make a name for themselves in New Jersey, and everyone was just blown away by the harmonica playing of singer John Popper.

Years later, the band hit it big with their album, "Four," and the single, "Run Around."

The band was always a group of talented musicians that played a blues-y rock, in a bategory of their own.

Band member Bob Sheehan passed away a few years back. The band released, "Truth Be Told," in 2003 to little fanfare.

Let's face it - things aren't going well for the band.

Now comes "!Bastardos!" Like "Truth Be Told" before it, the harmonica that defined Blues Traveler in its early years is hard to find on the album.

"You Can't Stop Thinking About Me" is a nice way to kick off the album, but nothing stands out for me on the CD as a whole.

Apparently, when Popper lost all of that weight a while back, he also lost his ability to write a great song.

There are some decent hooks on the album.

"After What" has a pretty catchy chorus, even if the verses are weak. The song even has about 10 seconds of harmonica on it.

Along with the usual upbeat tunes are some slower grooves, such as "Can't Win True Love" and "Leaning In."

"Nail" tries hard to be a powerful rocker, but it falls short in completely grabbing the listener.

The tough fact is that none of these songs stand out to me. Having been a fan of the band for years, they have a large catalog and list of great songs to be compared to, and the tracks on "!Bastardos!" have a tough time measuring up.

VMA's this weekend....

Once again, school has started, which means it's time for the MTV Video Music Awards.

That seems kind of strange these days, because MTV plays, maybe, three videos a day.

I guess there are videos on MTV2, but most of them will never see the light of the VMA's.

R. Kelly, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, The Killers and Shakira are the scheduled performers.

Haven't we heard enough of that Mariah Carey song that is on the radio every 5 minutes?

Does anyone really like that horrible "talking" song by R. Kelly?

The Killers need to go back to the 80s that they were born in.

Ugh....

I remember when the MTV VMAs were something fun and "the thing to watch" to see the best music had to offer.

It's turned into a joke.

It's turned into "Diddy's (Sean's, haha) Party."

Tune in on Sunday night....if there's nothing better to do.

INXS vs. TLC

I caught about 20 minutes of "R U The Girl?" last night - that would be TLC's Reality Show about searching for a replacement for Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez.

It's pretty interesting to compare it with "Rockstar: INXS."

Both shows/bands are looking for a new singer, but in very different ways.

"R U The Girl?" had a dance competition last night. Next week, they'll have photo shoots.

Granted, I haven't seen earlier episodes, but do they even care about singing ability?

"Rockstar:INXS" is all about singing and stage presence. Sure, they've mentioned style and attitude, but they don't focus on it.

It'll be interesting to watch the end results - how each band does with their new singer, since both singers were pretty unique people who can't truly be replaced.

Congrats to old friends....

I need to give long overdue congratulations to a couple guys I've known since high school.

Anyone who saw "Premium Blend" on Comedy Central not too long ago (the 2002 season), may have seen a band called P.I.C.

Two guys I went to high school with are in the band, and I recently got word that a small Japanese hip-hop label, Swamp Records, signed them up to distribute an album.

The band's based up in NYC, and I actually had a chance to catch one of their gigs in Atlanta a few years back. It's high energy and fun music that's worth giving a listen to.

Check out their Web site, if you have the time. As their debut album says, they play, "hiphoppunkfunkmamboska."

They're a talented bunch of guys, and I wish them all the best.

Stones getting older as tour begins

I'm looking forward to seeing the Rolling Stones live. I've never seen them before.

Having said that, these guys are old. Keith Richards jokes aside, when I see photos of the band these days, I'm amazed that they still do what they do.

Their tour recently kicked off in Boston and reviews are good.

I heard the first single off their new album on Yahoo! Launchcast yesterday and was pleasantly surprised.

I thought it was a song from back in their heyday, but it wasn't. That's good news.

The bad news is that idiots are going to their concerts.

Maybe idiot is a harsh word, but how else would you describe a 20-year-old woman who climbs the rafters?

She fell. She broke her ankles and a wrist and is lucky she wasn't killed. That's what you call, "thinning the herd."

She would have landed herself a Darwin Award, but instead she has a story to tell her kids.

"One time, Mommy went to a Rolling Stones concert and climbed the rafters.... That's why I have these scars. Don't be like Mommy...."

Poor kids...

This week's new releases

Bjork "Drawing Restraint: 9" (movie soundtrack) - There's no telling what the album will hold. Her last CD was 100 percent vocals. Her last movie soundtrack only had a handful of songs.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Howl" - I've only recently started hearing this trio via the wonderful Yahoo! radio - and I like what I hear so far. I'll see if I can get my hands on this album and put a review up here in the near future.

Crazy Frog "Crazy Hits" - If you are over the age of 12, please, oh please, don't buy this album. Why in the world would you?

Ozomatli "Live from the Fillmore" - It's Spanish, it's funky, it hasn't been the same since their first album, but they're still pretty good.

The week's bands with animal names: Beautiful Creatures, Biirdie, Crazy Frog, Minus the Bear, New Buffalo, Trick Pony, Two Ton Boa

(I'm wondering if there will ever be a week without one band with an animal name.)

Weekend concerts

Looking for a good concert this weekend?

You've got two great choices over at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem.

The Five L's and local "Battle for Ozzfest" finalist CYN are playing on Saturday night with a handful of other bands for just $15.

The show starts at 6 p.m.

Crossfade and Seether will perform on Sunday night at the Milennium Center. That show starts at 8 p.m.

Enjoy!

I'd call him Sean...

Give me a break already.

First he was Sean "Puffy" Combs.

Then he was "Puff Daddy."

Then he was "P. Diddy."

Now, he wants to be called "Diddy."

Oh, please....

He says, "It's the age of Diddy."

I say, "No one cares, Sean."

Simonstock vs. Weenie Roast

It's the battle of the radio networks' summer concerts, and I can forsee the easy winner already.

The end-of-summer Weenie Roast in Charlotte - the final one according to 106.5 The End - will be held on Sept. 11 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.

The bands that have been announced include: 3 Doors Down, Staind, Shinedown, Alterbridge, 30 Seconds to Mars and more to be announced.

Simonstock, presented by 98.7 Simon, will be held on Sept. 17 at Oak Hollow Park.

Listen to this "all-star" lineup: Atlanta Rhythm Section, Arrested Development, Sister Hazel, Midnight Star, The Edgar Winter Group, Tone-Loc, The Brat Pack, The Dickens....and, are you ready, William Hung!

Mother of all creatures, great and small....

William Hung? Tone-Loc? Thanks, 98.7 for pulling out the one-hit wonders that clog your radio waves on a daily basis.

Granted, the ticket cost is only $9.87 if you buy them in advance, but I'm not sure I'd pay $5 for any of them (maybe Arrested Development).

I guess the phrase, "you get what you pay for," always rings true.

Greensboro has no big music festival anymore. We have no draw for a concert series.

People drive to Winston. They drive to Charlotte. They drive to Raleigh.

When the opportunity arises for a big concert - a grand opportunity - they try to scare people away, instead of bringing them in.

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.

Did you miss Tommy, too?; New album

Thanks to thunderstorms last night, I missed the first two episodes of "Tommy Lee Goes to College."

Thanks to VH1, I'll have a chance to see them again.

This weekend, VH1 will be replaying the episodes, in case you missed them.

I'm interested more in seeing the reactions of college kids to seeing Tommy on their campus, to how Tommy reacts to being at college.

Though I imagine the scenes of Tommy trying out for the school band should be pretty entertaining.

Tommyland: The Ride
If you saw Tommy Lee's documentary a while back about his last solo album, you'll know that he went through a lot of struggles with his record label.

He didn't like the way he was promoted or the album was supported.

So it's no surprise that the new album is released without a record label or major distributor.

Lee is using Handleman as a distribution source and TL Education Services, Inc. as the imprint.

WOW - What a smart marketing idea. Seriously.

Lee is doing it himself, and the record is already gold thanks to high pre-sales - he's got the support of the successful Motley Crue reunion tour, his autobiography and his new TV show.

On the back of the album is a note: "I would like to personally thank all the major labels for having absolutely nothing to do with the recording, production and distribution of this record."

This guy cracks me up...

Ozzfest; Ministry; Fiona Apple

Ozzy Osbourne has stated that he will no longer headline Ozzfest after this year's tour, saying the tour is established and it's time for him to move on to new things.

Um, hello? It's called Ozzfest. People go to see Ozzy.

Ministry's new album
Al Jourgenson and the boys of Ministry are heading back out on the road, and they're releasing a new album, too.

The band's new album, "Rantology," will be a "greatest hits" kind of album with remixed and live songs.

Fiona's new album
As I mentioned here a while back, there was a stirring controversy over the third Fiona Apple album.

Apparently, the people at Epic Records held off from releasing it because "there wasn't a single."

Then the album made its way around the internet having fans call the album great, etc.

Now, the album will finally see the light of day (in record stores), but it's going to be reworked.

The new version of the album is expected Oct. 4.

I heard the first version, and it's already good.

A preview of a couple tracks can be found at Fiona Apple's Web site.

This week's new releases

311 "Don't Tread on Me" - To me, the band has gotten progressively worse with each album. However, the first single I heard off the new album, actually wasn't too bad. It remains to be seen if the band can "return to form."

Aly & A.J. "Into the Rush" - I have no idea who these two are, but if I had to guess, I'd say they have a show on Nickelodeon or Disney. Call them the next Lindsay Duff or Hillary Lohan, or whatever their names are....

Common "Be" (Instrumental version) - Another one for the karaoke crowd, I guess...

Cowboy Junkies "Early 21st Century Blues" - A little two mellow for my taste...

Rick James "Forever" - ...I know what his name is... Another one of those, cash in on their death albums...

The Killers "Hot Fuss" (limited edition) - Over-rated (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) Over-rated ...

Pras "Win, Lose or Draw" - Still waiting on that Fugees reunion...

Stryper "Reborn" - There's no better reason for a comeback, unless you weren't good the first time around.

Taproot "Blue Sky Research" - I like them, even if they do sound a lot like Filter... probably because I like Filter, too.

Of course, the band with animal names: Circus (?), Oxes (shouldn't it be Oxen?)

CD Review: Killer Queen "A Tribute to Queen"

Queen.jpg
Release date: Aug. 9, 2005

I'll have to review this track by track:

"We Are the Champions" Gavin DeGraw - Gavin, what were you thinking? It was pretty easy to see that this cover couldn't stand up to the original. And then they make it the first track on the album. Ugh, this was almost painful to listen to. A painful arrangement, and it just didn't work. Makes that horrible version on Rockstar: INXS sound good.

"Tie Your Mother Down" Shinedown - A well-done cover. Straight-up rock that pays homage to the original. It's good.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" Constantine M. - Yes, as in Constantine from American Idol. I'm almost scared to listen to it. But here it goes... The beginning wasn't bad, but then Constantine didn't have the backing of the cast of "We Will Rock You" and things went downhill. He just doesn't have the vocal power to pull this song off. At one point, his voice actually cracks. Three minutes left... I don't think I can take it. Backup vocals come in and the song gets better... But overall, not very good.

"Stone Cold Crazy" Eleven with Joshua Homme - Very mellow and kind of Zepplin-esque. I like it. I don't think I know the original, but I sure like this version.

"Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy" Jason Mraz - It's actually not bad. Mraz isn't his typical goofy self, but tries to stay true to the original. And it comes out pretty well. I'm actually surprised by this one.

"Under Pressure" Joss Stone - I'm a big Joss Stone fan. Love her voice. I wish she was on a Janis Joplin tribute, but, anyway... It's a new arrangement. Kind of jazzy. At least it doesn't leave me wondering if this is Vanilla Ice. As a cover of Queen, it's not good. On its own, it's a great song. Very well done. I liked it. It's nothing like the original.

"Who Wants To Live Forever" Breaking Benjamin - It's acoustic Breaking Benjamin. It's good, but not my favorite song I've heard by BB.

"Bicycle Race" Be Your Own Pet - It sounds like it's being sung by a group of kids. Kind of hip-hop, and it's not good. I had to hit "skip."

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" Josh Kelley - Sounds like the 80s. Boy, this CD is going downhill fast. Skip.

"Sleeping on the Sidewalk" Los Lobos - It's ok. Has a 50s rock-vibe to it. Not bad.

"Killer Queen" Sum 41 - Sounds like the original. I was pleasantly surprised. Wow. I wasn't expecting this. Well done as a homage to the original.

"Death on Two Legs" Rooney - Another well-done song. I don't think I'm familiar with the original, but I like this track.

"Play the Game" Jon Brion - Ugh. Within 3 seconds, this track is off to a bad start. Nasally, whining vocals. It's not good. Have...to...skip.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" The Flaming Lips - Again? Yes, again. A slightly different arrangement. It's off to a good start though. Has some "trippy" and psychedelic moments, but I liked it better than the first version on the album. Kind of cartoonish in parts, but not too bad.

"'39" Ingram Hill - Like the Osmonds, it's a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. Not too bad though. It's got a good groove to it. Something tells me it's not like the original.

"Fat Bottom Girls" Antigone Rising - It's kind of funny/silly to hear girls singing the words to this song, but overall, it's a good version.

CD Review: Suicide Machines "War Profiteering is Killing Us All"

SMachines.jpg
Release date: Aug. 9, 2005

"War Profiteering is Killing Us All" blasts right out of the gate with the title track, a high-velocity, punk song that lasts less than a minute and a half long.

In fact, the entire 13-track album clocks in at just more than 30 minutes.

The skate-scene punk band has had a number of great, fun songs over the years, but this album is politically charged.

"Capitalist Suicide," "17% 18 to 25" - even the song titles are politically charged.

If you're familiar with the band, you'll enjoy this - their sixth studio - album. It's high-speed, high-energy and simply fast fun.

More on INXS

Supposedly, people don't like the Rockstar:INXS show because they say, "Micheal Hutchence can never be replaced."

I agree. But I also think bands can move on with new singers.

The band isn't doing "American Idol" and trying to find the next William Hung.

They're holding a legit contest with true singers to find the one that fits their band, not the next Hutchence.

Other than that, my brother is traveling to Atlanta next week to see System of a Down with The Mars Volta.

I'm jealous.

Rockstar: INXS update

Here's a quick rundown of last night's Rockstar: INXS.

You know, this show has gotten bad reviews, but I don't know why. It sure is better than American Idol.

Suzie: She sang her own version of "Losing My Religion" and it was awesome.

Mig: Sang "All Right Now" and I wasn't impressed. However, he's probably one of the best fits for INXS.

J.D.: Sang "Crazy" by Seal, and I still don't know how this guy is still on the show.

Jessica: "Come as you Are" shouldn't be sung with a Southern accent. I'd guess she's on her way out.

Jordis: She can do no wrong, even when singing "Layla." Not her best performance, but she's definitely the best singer on the show. Still not sure if she'd fit in to INXS.

Brandon: Finally, I liked his performance. "It's All Over Now" came out more like the Black Crowes than the Rolling Stones, but it was well done.

Marty: "Mr. Brightside" is one of the worst songs on the radio these days. But Marty ripped an acoustic solo performance.

Deanna: I'll admit that I missed her performance, so I won't comment. But reviews online said it was pretty good.

Ty: "No Woman No Cry" wasn't that great. I think he's the one singer that started really strong and has gone down hill every week since.

Find out who gets booted tonight....

Question of the month

Why is it that MTV finds a need to mute the word "drugs" in The Transplants' lyrics, "Some of my friends sell records, some of my friends sell drugs," but has no problem with 50 Cent singing, "I'll let you lick the lollipop, keep going till you hit the spot"?

Does anyone else see a problem with this?

I don't have a problem with either artist/band - I have both their albums - but I don't understand why graphic sex talk is ok, and the simple word drugs is not.

This week's new releases...

Here's a quick look at some of the new releases for this week:

3 Doors Down "Away from the Sun" (DualDisc) - They're playing the Weenie Roast, in case you didn't already know. This is their album from 2002, in a new format.

Staind "Chapter V" - Another band for the "Weenie" in Charlotte. All of their songs are starting to sound the same though, so maybe you already have this album.

Juliana Hatfield "Made in China" - She's a great singer, but hasn't been the same in years. I guess a solo album means the Blake Babies reunion didn't last?

Hootie & The Blowfish "Looking for Lucky" - I wonder if that Burger King tune is on here? .....tender crisp bacon cheddar ranch....hmmm, hmmm, hhmmmmmm.....

Tommy Lee "Tommyland" - It's really strange to hear his first single on the pop music radio stations instead of the alternative ones. It's like he's the male Paris Hilton....

Stephen Stills "Man Alive" - If your album features Neil Young and Graham Nash as guests, is it really a solo album? Where's David Crosby?

Suicide Machines "War Profiteering is Killing Us All" - It's 14 anti-war songs in about 30 minutes. Hardcore, punk and ska... Look for an album review here this week.

What would this entry be without the list of animal bands?: 3 Fox Drive, Hootie and the Blowfish, Minotaur Shock, Mouse on Mars

Van Halen done again?

Not too long ago, Van Halen was on a massive tour and "blowing the roof off" arenas around the country.

Well, it looks like they've broken up. Again.

In a story about Sammy Hagar over at billboard.com, he says, "The Van Halen thing wasn't a horrible experience, but it wasn't a great experience."

This is quite a contrast from the band that appeared to be having an absolute blast on stage during their tour's first show in Greensboro.

Hagar goes on to say, "I don't get along with Eddie anymore, and that's all there is to it."

Wow ... I guess fans who made it to the shows may have witnessed the final tour.

How's "The Ride"?

Have you seen the video for the first single, "Good Times," off of Tommy Lee's upcoming solo album, "Tommyland: The Ride"?

You can hear the song (and the whole album) over at VH1.com.

Um...it sounds like, at least on this track, Tommy spent a little too much time hanging out with Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys.

This sounds more like a boy-band song than something from one of the most outrageous drummers of recent years.

In my recent interview with Tommy, he, of course, said this is the best music he's ever done.

Let's give a quick look at the rest of the album, track by track:

2. "Hello, Again" is very mellow as well. I think I expected more rock than this.

3. "Tryin To Be Me" (features Chad Kroeger of Nickelback) - Finally, some rock. But is he rapping over the music? Hmm... It's not too bad. Should have been the first single instead of that pop song.

4. "Sister Mary" - The Beatles with a harder drummer, maybe? Not too bad... Straight rock. I kind of like it.

5. "The Butler" - A long intro...some kind of sample. Nope. That was it. Just some talking. Sounds like a voicemail message. What's the point?

6. "Tired" (Features Joel Madden of Good Charlotte) - I wish I could print the beginning lyrics to show how silly they are, but I'll hold back. "Tommy got tired of Pamela, Ed got tired of Salma, Puffy got tired of JLo...." yes - this is the beginning of the chorus. Not a bad song musically, but the lyrics are weak.

7. "I Need You" - Very mellow. Overall, not a bad song.

8. "Make Believe" - Sounds like an 80s gothic band. Pretty basic rock song. It's ok.

9. "Makin' Me Crazy" - Female singer. This is a really good song. Probably because Tommy's not singing. It's someone named Dirty Harry. You can also find her site here. Here's an artist to keep an eye on....

10. "Watch You Lose" - Acoustic with Tommy's growling vocals over it. It's pretty good.

11. "Say Goodbye" (features Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys) - Kind of sounds like the song before it. It's ok. Nothing great.

12. "Hello Again" (Acoustic) - Probably better than the regular version.

OK - I'm off to find more music by Dirty Harry...

Rockstar INXS update

First off, I should say that I still think Jordis is the best singer on the show.

Having said that, I'm not sure that she'll win the competition. After all, this isn't American Idol.

This is a competition to find the best singer for INXS - that doesn't mean the best singer overall.

It was a shock last week when they booted two people off the show in one shot.

So who's going this week? You never know. It sure won't be Jordis.

Personally, I don't understand how J.D. is still on the show, and if he becomes the new front man of INXS, the band is sure to lose money.

It's still a good show if you haven't checked it out yet.

This week's new releases

Here's a look at this week's new releases, and, of course, those bands with animal names:

Common "Be" (Instrumental version) - I like the first single from Common, but that's probably because it has lyrics and is kind of catchy. Is this an album for the karaoke crowd?

Alice Cooper "Dirty Diamonds" - Alice's act may have grown to be a little tired, but he's still a performer at heart and a heck of an interviewee. I'll see if I can find the time to review this new album in the near future.

Bruford "Tapes" - Not to be confused with an album by Bill Bruford's Earthworks, which is also releasing an album on Tuesday. Wow - that's a popular band name.

Faith Hill "Fireflies" - I'm sure this will be a big seller, even if it isn't a mainstream album. Like Shania Twain, she's got a big fan base and people will buy the album just because it has her name on it.

Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz "Crunk Juice" - Is anyone else tired of the word "crunk"? Lil Jon gets paid way too much money to sit around and say, "Yeahhhh," so here's another album with more of the same stuff.

This week's animal bands: Animal Liberation Orchestra; Electric Eel Shock; Impotent Sea Snakes (DVD)
