CD Review: Richard Cheese "Silent Nightclub"

cheese.jpg
Release date: Sept. 26, 2006
14 tracks; 25:09

Somehow a holiday album by lounge singer Richard Cheese just seems to fit in with Thanksgiving.

If you're not familiar with the music of Richard Cheese - it's lounge in all its stereotypic glory.

The album combines holiday songs with, well, not so holiday songs.

They're all done in strictly lounge fashion - from Madonna's "Like a Virgin" to "Christams in Las Vegas" to "Silent Night."

The album plays like a live concert with a "thank you" thrown in here and there or a quick mention of his Web site.

One of the highlights has got to be "Jingle Bells" as performed by The Barking Dogs. That's right, he repeatedly sings "Bark bark bark" to the tune of the song.

A slowed down "Ice Ice Baby" can also be found on the album.

"Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode, "Naughty Girl" by Beyonce and "Imagine" by John Lennon are also here.

A peppy "Do They Know It's Christmas" - the song performed by Band-Aid - is broken up in the middle when Cheese can't hit the right notes.

The enjoyable CD will have you laugh at its humor and irony.

While listening to the album all I can think is "Vegas, Baby. Vegas."

Happy Thanksgiving!

Coming Soon

I'm sad to say the Musical Garbage Can will be leaving GoTriad on or about March 23. It will go back to its original home at Blogspot here. Thank you for your continued support!
