It's no surprise that Harry Connick Jr. has been doing a lot to help his native New Orleans ever since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city.
With "Oh My Nola," Connick looks at some of the musical roots of the cajun city.
In the CD's liner notes, Connick gives some info on why he picked some of the tracks, or why he wrote others.
From the classic Allan Toussaint song "Working in the Coal Mine" to the zydeco standard "Jambalaya (on the Bayou)," Connick rearranges the familiar to make them his own.
There are some old-school arrangements, and some new ones, but the album is mostly fun and jazzy making one think of beniets and crawfish and everything in between.
There are slower tracks such as "Let Them Talk" and new takes on old songs such as "Hello Dolly."
Connick offers a great sampling of New Orleans music that plays as a modern best of.
