The Grammys are kicking off - and the reunited Police are playing "Roxanne" to start it.
The band sounds great, and all members look like they're having a great time.
Tony Bennet and Stevie Wonder just won a grammy - nice to see two deserving legends being honored.
The Dixie Chicks are now performing. Natalie Maines looks good as a brunette - though the band is dressed in surprisingly formal attire. The band sounds good playing "Not Ready to Make Nice."
The formal outfits on The Dixie Chicks makes me think - this is the premiere music awards ceremony, so why don't they have more fun with it a la MTV awards.
They just showed that Gnarles Barkley won for Alternative Music Album - Crazy!
John Mayer and Christina Aguilera each won for pop vocal performances.
Beyonce's performance begins. I have to admit - I'm not a big fan... Her voice sounds shaky, but I guess it's just vibrato. She's got a good voice, but not my style.
Carrie Underwood wins a Grammy - shows that the Idols continue their success.
I wonder why there aren't more awards given out - as far as a lot of awards being handed out outside of the televised ceremony.
And the best R&B album is - Mary J. Blige, "The Breakthrough." She was bound to win with all of her nominations. Wow - she's naming everyone she's ever met...
Someone will win a chance to sing with Justin Timberlake - why do we care? Celebrate the artist, not a contest winner...not at this show.
Is it just me, or are a lot of the commercials more music-based tonight?
Justin Timberlake - says the song is written about a "friend." ummm, sure. JT is playing the piano with a large backing band and four backup singers...sounds good, though I'm not a fan of his. The closeup camera angle is kinda freaking me out....there is such a thing as too close.
The Doors win a much-deserved lifetime Grammy.
The winner for Female R&B Vocal Performance is....Mary J. Blige again. I'd say she's on her way to a big night. Hopefully, her speech is shorter this time.
The Flaming Lips won a Grammy...as the brief winners list on the bottom of the screen rolls on. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have also picked up three awards, and the Dixie Chicks have won one.
Rick Rubin won his first Grammy after five nominations for producer of the year.
Corrine Bailey Rae performing with John Legend and John Mayer... Rae sounds great - solo with an acoustic guitar. Mayer now comes in for a little solo work over her singing... now Legend is playing piano with her. A nice soulful song that is showcasing her vocal talent. Legend is now singing solo. Mayer and Rae join in for the chorus. Now it's Mayer's turn for a nice bluesy song. His faces while he plays/sings always crack me up. A nice trio of performances.
Best Pop Vocal Album winner is...John Mayer. Wow - that's a surprise, considering he was up against Aguilera and Timberlake.
