Today, our lead editorial looked at how much a couple of first-time legislative candidates from Guilford County spent in their successful election campaigns. It cost Pricey Harrison nearly a half-million dollars to unseat Joanne Bowie, while Laura Wiley spent roughly $1,000 in defeating Steve Wood.

Enjoyed the read. Somehow I have trouble believing the candidates that they really hated to spend all that money. I'm sure it pained them immeasurably to do whatever it takes to attain their position of power.

Hey dad. Way to be an old dog learning a new trick. I may not comment too much since I'm out of the loop with Guilford County politics, but I do find this one interesting. Half a million for a state legislature campaign? I think that we're going to have the first ever national economy built entirely on political campaigns before too long. And yet $1000 can get the job done. Rusty, if you don't mind my asking, what was your campaign's budget?

Andrew,
I signed a threshhold limit of $3,000. (anything over that and you have to do a lot more paperwork and go through audits and whatnot). I ended up raising and spending about $2,400, about $100 of which was my own money.
