Move 'em west

Here's an appeal to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association: Change the location of Saturday's 3A East Regional girls' basketball final between Dudley and High Point Central.

The game is set for Rose High School in Greenville. How about playing it on a neutral court in the Triad instead?

The same goes for a possible Dudley-Glenn boys rematch, if those teams win their semifinal games at East Carolina University in Greenville tonight. Their final would tip off at the same location Saturday.

The reasons for shifting these games are obvious ...

It's inconvenient and expensive for these teams and their supporters to travel three hours to Greenville for games that could be played here. A local setting will produce much bigger crowds and generate a lot more revenue for the NCHSAA.

The association already has shown flexibility by shifting High Point Central from the west regional to the east after the first round of the playoffs. Some common-sense flexibility now will pay positive dividends for all involved.
