Get them on tape
Do we need video cameras in public school classrooms?
In light of discipline problems, and cases where parents refuse to believe and support teachers who are having trouble with their children, does it make sense to keep video/audio records of what actually transpires in classrooms? Then, when conflicts arise, everyone can see and hear exactly what happened.
I know. What are we coming to? Or are we already there?

By the way, a discussion with my wife prompted this post. She teaches in middle school and thinks cameras would serve as a useful witness in case something bad happens in the classroom. Not that anything bad would happen in a middle school.

I understand some schools have tried it. It was not well received by the teachers and in some cases it was taken out. I think it is a good idea and could be voluntary for each classroom. Teachers seem to be opposed. They think that there will be increased criticism of their methods.

It's a shame to say that cameras in classrooms may be needed. But due to the current trend of violence in schools, it's easy to understand why many might think classroom cameras would possibly help to gain some control.
Teachers being opposed?
Of course they are. The teachers are opposed to testing of their abilities too. Anything that might show some shortcomings isn't going to be well received. True?
