Thanks for sharing this story.
Despite the story's bizarre nature, this stuck out for me: "In an almost surreal meeting, commissioners and Russell maintained a polite, respectful demeanor."
Something like this happening with our own commissioners is not unimaginable.
I just can't imagine ours maintaining a "polite, respectful demeanor" in the aftermath of such events.
At any rate, maybe we can learn from the story and avoid the same fate.

I hope something like this wouldn't happen here. In Rowan County, the county manager apparently allowed himself to be pushed by a couple of commissioners into doing something stupid and inappropriate. I would give our county manager credit for being smarter and more independent than that.
On the other point, you're right. Our commissioners have trouble speaking to each other in a polite and respectful manner.
