Taylor watch

The U.S. House of Representatives record of votes still shows Rep. Charles Taylor, R-N.C., as not voting on CAFTA last week.

Taylor said he did vote -- against CAFTA -- but his vote was somehow not recorded. He promised to correct the error.

We're waiting.

Doug,
According to Mr. Taylor's office this morning, his vote is being recorded as a nay vote. While it does give another vote to show how badly this should have been defeated it is for no avail. The measure still passes by one vote. I see no real reason to blast Mr. Taylor for his vote gone missing. He was against it from the early days of this issue being brought up and had states many times, at least in the papers here in WNC that he could not vote for the measure as it was written. If that is the big gun that the sidelined QB is going to bring out against Mr. Taylor in his run against him, I fear that the young man is going to have a long tiresome run to no avail.

Mr. Taylor, in this end of the state, is like your Mr. Coble. Gonna be around for a long time. People like them both and they do much for the people of their districts that largely goes unnoticed by the press but the local's know and that is what counts.

I have to respectfully disagree with your Taylor-Coble comparison. Taylor always seems to be on the edge of trouble, and he's had some tough political challenges. Coble, on the other hand, is so well liked in his district that Democrats haven't given him a real race since 1988.

Since my return to this area and keeping up with Mr.Taylor I beleive he has had one what you might call close race to my recollection. I could however be wrong since I spent several of those years in G'boro and perhaps missed out on something.
He has often been accused of things but nothing has been proven. It is the tactics that the Democrat Party in Buncombe county use constantly to unseat him. They have a strong dislike for anyone who is not in lockstep with the DNC agenda. Buncombe Co and Guilford Co are almost twins in spending and taxing.

There we go with the "Taxing and spending" line. I suppose President Bush's spending without taxing and selling our debt to China is alright.

I gotta tell ya, it made no sense to me that he did tax cuts during a time of increased military activity.

Goodbye Charles Taylor, hello Heath Shuler.

I can vote for Mr. Taylor Kenny, can you vote for Heath?

Jim since you do not live in Buncombe County and probably never have and since I have lived in both counties I believe that my opinion carrys a bit more weight than yours. And of course I have paid the taxes in both counties to add to my statement. Of course you would always make a negative comment since you have no knowledge of the subject at hand and have failed to read anything except my last sentence.
I suggest you study the history of taxation in both counties and the history of who has been in political power during this time and then if you have something to refute my statement then you are welcome to make it.
