Can't they all just get along?
Sometimes, it's hard to feel hopeful about the prospects for peace in the world.
Today's example one.
Today's example two.
In both Northern Ireland and Israel/Palestine, progress toward peace and reconciliation always seems to spur a backlash.
Militaristic Protestants in Belfast violently protest anything that appears to make concessions to Catholics.
And in Gaza, Palestinians respond to Israel's withdrawal with renewed hostility. Is that going to to encourage the Israelis to give up more territory on the West Bank, especially if Gaza becomes -- literally -- a launching pad for attacks against Israel?
When's it going to end?

It kind of reminds me of Democrats and Republicans in this country. Get along, not likely when there might be some political advantage to be gained by playing gotcha all of the time. We certainly can't stand as noble examples to the world, when our very society mocks the concept of peace and reconcilitation. We've had two mind-numbing catastrophes in this country in the last four years, and have they brought this country closer together? If anything, the division and hostility is worse than ever. We just haven't resorted to the use of deadly weapons yet.
