Cindy vs. Hillary

Now Cindy Sheehan is going after Democrats.

I can't blame them for keeping their distance.

Sheehan should organize a protest against the real enemy -- the terrorists who are committing murder and mayhem in an attempt to stop Iraqis from building a free country.

Mother Sheehan is way past her 15 minutes of fame. It'll be most interesting if she can force Hillary to move left. Hillary has done a good job of being centrist lately re-enforcing her run for the presidency, which is where she needs to be able to run to attract enough Republican votes. But, a move to the left may cost her some of those votes, but if she doesn't make the move to the left, she may lose votes from there. Quite a quandry, but I predict that Hillary will find a politically palatable place to land in all of this. She usually does; her fans are very forgiving.

Hillary does need to be careful, though, if she cozies up to Sheehan too much. Sheehan has become very radical, and Hillary moving that far to the left could seriously hurt her in 2008. I doubt that america would elect someone that they see as a radical. Centrism works in election years.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Yes, terrorists and insurgents are the enemies here. They have no respect for human life. But is the protest of an American woman against the terrorists going to phase them in the slightest? I doubt it. I'm pretty sure they're aware the US is not happy with them. Though I hesitate to support Sheehan, wouldn't protesting against the way a war has been faught potentially have more effect?

I mean, appealing to our own government for a better way for the war to be fought has to be the more practical solution than asking the terrorists to stop killing. Right?

Evan,

Thanks for your comment.

I'll try to explain more fully what I meant.

Cindy Sheehan isn't protesting the way the U.S. is fighting the war. She wants us to cease fighting it immediately.

I wish we could, but our forces will remain in Iraq as long as the terrorists continue their insurgency or until the Iraqi security forces can take over. So, the sooner the insurgency ends, the sooner the U.S. will get the heck out of there.

If Cindy Sheehan wants the war to end, she'll appeal to the terrorists. They are the ones who are keeping the war going.
