Got it last week. Haven't had time to listen carefully. Sound is excellent. Heard a review on Fresh Air yesterday. Reviewer said Billie Holiday and Ray Charles were also on the bill. Highest priced tickets were $4.
Thanks, David. It must have been an amazing concert. And the sound engineer did a brilliant job of recording it. The NPR report made much of the obviously good mike placement. Please feel free to offer a more detailed review when you have a chance.
I'm going to post a review at some point once I have a chance to sit down and really listen to it. You're exactly right about the sound. For a live concert it is absolutely incredible. I think Monk's son had a good deal to do with the re-mastering. Some of the credit may be due him. I heard a description of NY in the 50s with all these guys at the apex of their talent: Paradise. Must have been.
I'm a jazz buff too. I have vinyl and CDs. I still am a neophyte, but Nancy Wilson is my favorite singer. Bob Palochi has a great show at 90.5FM. I heard cuts from this recording last weekend.
Did you ever wonder WHY those tapes were lost and stuffed away in a back corner of the achives...It's because of the High Point Choice Plan. Wait...ah...wrong strand...(or is it?)...

Hey Doug,
Did you ever wonder WHY those tapes were lost and stuffed away in a back corner of the achives...It's because of the High Point Choice Plan. Wait...ah...wrong strand...(or is it?)...
