Doug, you ever smoke a joint or eat a, lets say, "enhanced" brownie?
I notice the increasing interest in this legalization argument, you had an earlier post on it.
My question is, do you have a reference point here?
In fact, have any of you people who might post on this topic?

Once again, would it be too much to ask for a disciplined cost/benefit analysis for the various options, including the option of leaving laws as they are and taking into account the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other legal drugs? That's all I want for Christmas. Well, that and a pony.
And I'll probably get the pony first.

I got to agree with Lex on this one for sure. And oh Lex, didn't they tell you that Santa isn't allowed to take ponies down the chimney anymore since PETA complained. Infact he may have to replace the Raindeer with and airplane but then the eco-terror groups are set to complain about him using too much fuel and pollution of the sky.In fact some groups want to just do away with Christmas totally. So I wouldn't even look too hard for the pony Lex.

Enforcing laws against murder isn't cost-effective. Think of the police work it takes to solve the crime, the cost of prosecuting and defending the suspect, the years and years of appeals and the expense of housing, feeding and providing medical care for the killer for the rest of his life.

Doug,
Great counterpoint to Lex.
