The enemies of peace
I hope the four members of Christian Peacemaker Teams kidnapped in Iraq will be released unharmed.
At the same time, I believe this Chicago-based group is misplacing blame for the crime. A statement on its Web site says:
"We are angry because what has happened to our teammates is the result of the actions of the U.S. and U.K. governments due to the illegal attack on Iraq and the continuing occupation and oppression of its people."
What happened is the result of criminal action by terrorists who have contempt for peacemakers and for Christians.
The terrorists are not oppressed people. Their goal is to oppress others by imposing their own radical theology on Iraq. They don't want peace, but victory. "Peacemakers" are just as much an enemy to their objectives as are American and British soldiers.

There will come many crying Peace Peace but there will be no peace.....
There will be wars and rumors of wars....
Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter: (it goes on to say that this "wall" (false sense of peace) will be torn down." (Ezekiel)
Unfortunately another group of well meaning people who have been hijacked by a few who seek not peace but appeasement. They value the cry of peace over freedom.
Real peaceseekers do not stir up anger and wrath by condemning those who defend and or/seek to bring freedom.
Six million people were allowed to die in the name of peace because some sought appeasement clothed as peace and did nothing to stop the rise of Hitler.
I admire their sincerity even if they are sincerly wrong in the way they go about it. The attempt to attack the war and not the root of war is much like the way the far right handles their war on homosexuality. Both are wrong.
The only Peace that one can know in this world is the Peace that is within that Jesus Christ brings. Until He comes again, there will be no peace on this earth so if they wish real peace in this world their prayer should be "Come quickly, Lord Jesus......"

Doug,
Terrorists organizations have kidnapped Westerners for only G_d knows how long because that's where the money is. They want ransom money in order to continue to do what they do. And some orgs have already paid sizable sums in order to release employees who've been kidnapped in Iraq.
Many of these "aid" organizations arrived in Iraq prior to our invasion to trumpet the word against the "aggressors", meaning us. This Chicago based org gives me the impression that they have another agenda in mind and not particularly the one promoting a religious desire to convert unbelievers, or whatever their called.
Religious groups, of whatever persuasion, will always find themselves in harms way when spreading the word of the G_d of their Choice to lands unsympathetic to them. This Christian based org was aware of this possibility yet put their people in harms way. Shame on them.
I pray for their speedy and safe release.

Hello Doug.
I agree with your comments. I too hope they are released unharmed. It is ironic however that this group was in Iraq for purposes of uncovering and publishing examples of American mistreatment of Iraqis and now they are in peril of being horribly mistreated by terrorist and are completely reliant upon coalition troops if a rescue is called for. This group has a long history of anti-Israeli activism and they were in fact in Baghdad prior to the beginning of the war. Below is an excerpt taken from a posting on Frontpagemagazine.com:
"Once the war began in March 2003, CPT team members stayed in Baghdad to "stand alongside Iraqi families; provide an alternative voice to the reporters 'embedded' with Coalition forces; use their bodies to protect critical civilian infra-structure such as water treatment facilities, electrical plants, and hospitals; . . . raise an alternative perspective on the invasion based on interviews with Iraqi friends; . . . document abuse of detainees by Coalition forces; assist Iraqis in gaining access to loved ones in detention; [and] launch the Adopt-a-Detainee Campaign asking churches to advocate on behalf of Iraqi detainees." Again, the organization's emphasis has been consistently focused on America's alleged culpability for Iraqi suffering".
Some of the activities listed above were once thought of as treason but now these activities seen to pass for run of the mill "patriotic opposition". Anyway, despite that fact that I really don't like what these people are doing, we are Americans and you can bet on the fact that if called upon to go into harms way to rescue these people - our soldiers will bravely do so.
