Women rule
As Sandy Carmany noted on her blog, women gained six of nine seats on Greensboro City Council Tuesday.
The ratio is reversed in High Point, where men hold six of nine.
But that's probably because more women didn't run. Three of the four women on High Point's ballot -- Becky Smothers, Bernita Sims and Lisa Stahlmann -- won by huge margins. The fourth, Stephanie Parnell, was beaten by Sims.
If you look at the two cities, you'll find that female candidates stomped their male opponents almost every time.
The only man to win a seat on either council by beating a woman was Mike Barber, who defeated Janet Wallace in District 4.
What's the secret, Mike?
Otherwise in Greensboro, Sandra Anderson, Yvonne Johnson and Florence Gatten left Don Vaughan behind in the at-large race, Dianne Bellamy-Small edged Luther Falls in District 1 and Goldie Wells overwhelmed Ed Whitfield in District 2. Carmany beat a female challenger in District 5.
Over in High Point, it was Smothers over Steve Wood for mayor and Stahlmann beating Timothy Brown in Ward 6.
In recent elections, fewer women have run for High Point City Council. When more run, more will win.
I'd like to see voter turnout by gender. Want to bet, guys, who's doing most of the voting around here?

That's a miserable excuse. When they win more than 70 percent of the vote, you've got a citywide consensus: They were the better candidates, by far. Accept it.

Better candidates for you Doug but not for us in NHP.
No planned growth.
No support of SW parents who's children are being kidnapped and transported to far away schools.
(Dont give me the cop out "have no resp on SB again).

NOWAY, I don't beleive that the statement "better candidates" meant better for Doug. It would seem that when a candidate receives 70% of the vote , city wide, it would be apparent that people from all walks of life and from different neighborhoods felt that those winnning were the best choice. Now, they may not have been your choice but that is the way a demoracy works, like it or not. By the way, Did you vote? I hope you did but I often find that those who cry loudest failed to cast a ballot.
If those of you choice did not win then it is time to start looking for a candidate(s) who in the next election can defeat those you dislike. Get out, tell the good things about your candidate, what they stand for, (leave out the negativity about the others because that will not win you any swing votes), start building a "war chest" to pay for ads. Get you candidate to start speaking up on issues NOW, don't wait until 3 months or 3 weeks before the election. Again have you candidate speak FACTS, not negativity about the opponent, for that will only create doubt in some minds that your candidate has no real platform to run on. I will be watching to see how this turns out. I hope that somewhere along the line there will be people elected who can get this unholy mess in the school system brought to order. It does not appear, at least at a distance which is sometimes the best view, that it is working at all. Until then good luck.

When faced with the problem of not have enough minority participation in the 300 million bond one board member asks.
"There are a couple of colored gentlemen architects on the design team". "Have you asked them if they know of any minority Companies"?
This is the calibre of people we have on the SB. Doug what do you think about such a comment?

If I'm misinformed, why are you backing away from your original statement? Now it's "something like that." Well, precision is important when you're trying to attack someone's character. And failing, in your case. These anonymous, inaccurate allegations say much more about the accuser's character.
